I have mixed feelings about this game. I enjoyed playing The Escapists and I'm a fan of The Walking Dead. This game, though, is not focused on the main aspect of the Escapists, which is careful planning to escape. Instead, it's more dynamic and involves combat. This means that to do well you pretty much grind the power and speed stats in the gym first, before engaging into exploration and combat. This goes for every round in the campaign except for the tutorial, which makes it kind of tedious. Another thing is this game is a bit glitchy - I got stuck in a bush once and couldn't move. The solution - load game because I found no other way around it. In one of the survivals I pretty much got a free 3 star rating because all the enemies wouldn't move outside of their spawn points. On the other hand it's a fun game to play. There's a lot of exploration, yet the campaign mode can be quite frustrating. It's hard to find certain keys, and colored keys were often hidden behind a door locked with the corresponding color. Solution? Dig under or tear down the wall to access it. Still, despite many flaws, I recommend this game to Walking Dead fans, although hardcore Escapist fans might be very disappointed.
I think this game is AWSOME!! But there is one thing I think they should add multiplayer. The reason is, first of all the new escapist has the multiplayer mode which is great so why could this game have multiplayer too? Imagine the survival mode, fighting walker with your best friend, It would be awesome, The AI character to help you out, sure, but they run out of bullets quickly, and you always have to save them And story mode would have a Coop mode which would make the story more enjoyable! Anyways, this game is awesome.
It looks like a cool little game, and I bought it to play on my laptop, as my PC is currently unavailable. Music is cool, and the 8-bit atmosphere is very well crafted. The tutorial could do with a bit more work; originally I picked up the first zombie and carried her around until I worked out how to drop her. The controls are a bit too simple: the same button which means "attack" also means "carry" and "drop". Once past the first bit of the first level, however, I could not progress. I need to fire a gun in order to proceed, but the gun cannot be fired. The tutorial is clear on what I need to do (press right-button or SPACE to aim and left button to fire). Pressing space works just fine, and the zombie gets targetted. However, pressing the left button then does nothing. Not a thing. I spent about ten minutes trying different combinations, verifying the controls section of the pause menu, and trying to use both buttons at the same time rather than SPACE. Both buttons at the same time may not work on the mousepad for this laptop, but SPACE and left-button should work. It doesn't. I hope this gets fixed soon, because this does look like fun little game, and I am a huge fan of the TV show. **EDIT** The guys at Team17 saw this reviw and contacted me via comments very quickly. An email exchange followed. That's great support, guys. Well done! Sadly, my issue is not resolved, but I could continue play using a USB mouse. My tests found that it appears to be an issue with Windows 10 and/or DirectX. Other games turn out to be affected in an identical way. I progressed to level 2, and this does look like a fun little game. I will be playing it more when I get access to a USB mouse on a regular basis.
This title combines one of the best indie games on Steam, The Escapists, with the renowned comic/TV series, The Walking Dead. The game is pulled of in an amazing manner, featuring locations and characters from the story. The survival aspect is also great. The crafting system is easy to pick up and all items are balanced perfectly. 8.5/10, must buy.
