The sprawling Big Apple and the bustling city of New Haven come together in the exciting new NEC: New York-New Haven route for Train Simulator, featuring many of New York’s famous landmarks and advanced signalling throughout.Read full description
This route is accurate, detailed, and long! It boasts a great recreation of New York and surrounding areas, and feature two locos; the ACS-64, but also a CSX SD40-2 for freight scenarios. I am particularly glad that it came with two vehicles, as I don't believe it would be worth buying otherwise. The downsides of the route include the limited track-side detail in some areas. Being an expansive route, more of a focus has been made to the distant details and buildings (which by the way, is second to none). Another (personal) drawback is that of length. It takes a good while to traverse this whole route. It cannot be done in a casual sitting. I feel that for this route to be entertaining to drive, it is necessary to purchase one or more of the many addon locos which DTG offer. I can personally recommend the Kawasaki M8 (Metro North). Further, the sound effects (as always for Dovetail Games) are lacking in quality - they are not as immersive as I would like. The sound effectso for the SD40-2 are buggy too - the break sound can constantly loop and sound awful. This is a great passenger line, and can be improved by the purchase of additional DLC to give added variety. I recommend it for fans of North American routes. Great passenger and (to my delight) freight experience.
The NEC: New York-New Haven Route Add-On is a full featured and nice DLC pack for American railroad fans, as it models modern day Amtrak lines on the Northeast corridor. Obviously, the jewel of the DLC is the modeling of Grand Central and other busy urban areas of New York and its surrounding areas. The new content is beautiful (by TS standards) but be warned that the already spotty performance of the game may be magnified in this sprawling expansion. New locomotives and rolling stock are well modeled, and add a reasonable amount of new equipment to use. Missions included are fun and challenging, and on par with other offerings. While a DLC based in the New York area modeling classic steam and diesel would be more interesting, the New York-New Haven DLC is worth it for fans of Train Simulator.
