Game description

The revival for the game

rhysprice

CIV VI has had a dodgy start in my opinion comparing it to the complete version of CIV V. Many changes were good but they were missing things that were critical to the games success. This DLC brings tons of new Leaders to the game and adds some very nice new features, the nicest new feature being the governors. This system is extremely useful to boosting you to the victory you are aiming for. For example, As Korea which was my first game with this DLC. Getting the educator along with your specialty science district. It absolutely rockets you ahead of any science civ in the game. The New Dark age/Golden age system is very nice and early game is easy. depending on how you do in each era, changes the score you need to achieve to get a normal age. I would say the new loyalty system is good. I think it limits the city spam, kind of acting as the happiness from CIV V, just a lot more intense since you can lose a whole city. Overall I think this DLC brings many new features that have really bought this game up from the ground and has started projecting it to a good future. The only real con of the DLC so far is that the AI coding with the dlc, isn't the best. Im finding that if you play on teams it makes the AI make some really stupid decisions which boost you to victory.

Amazing Expansion for an amazing game!

drafek

Rise and Fall is an amazing expansion for everyone that loves Civilization VI. It includes some nice civilizations, it's nice to see the Cree and Mapuche includes in here. It also includes a loyalty system which is especially nice if you play solo games because it keeps civilizations for getting too close at the beginning. The governors add a depth and the dark and golden ages are nice additions to the game, but you've to get use to it, at least I did. Overall a great expansion and worth every penny. WARNING: The mac version hasn't been released yet and as of writing this review there hasn't been a word about this issue from Firaxis or 2K!

"Fixes" a lot of the game's faults

coldrefreader

One of the main features of this expansion is the new age system. You either fall into a dark age if you fail to "prosper" in time, or you go into the more familiar golden age, which is similar to Civ V's golden age. All the civilisations it adds make up most of it, but there are a few other things as well. It adds governors, who have many benefits and effects when placed on cities and support both the "wide" conquering way of playing, alongside the "tall" building-up and more pacifist way of playing. Loyalty allows for people who play "tall" to.. expand in a way, as disloyal cities will seek to cut off from your empire and become free cities, whereas the more loyal ones will try to sway disloyal cities from other empires to join you. It fixes a lot of the empty space in mid- and late game, and alongside everything else is a worthy expansion.

Good expansion

Dave24

Rise and Fall is pretty good expansion, but it's not Civ5 game changing expansion, but more like Warlords to Civ4 - it adds some cool stuff, but it's not greatest of expansions. All of the new civilizations are great (although, personally, I find Queen Seondeok to be weird pick, because she only got there, because of the popular TV show, as a historical leader, she was pretty bad, but that doesn't drag down the game at all). Timeline, Government, Loyalty, mini-congress are all cool, and great ages are actually pretty cool mechanic, throwing some curve ball into the game. So, why it's not 5 stars you might ask? Answer is simple, really. Most of the new features are all about enhancing diplomacy and interactions with AI, but problemis the AI is still pretty dumb and didn't improve at all, which is a shame, because while playing on biggest map with biggest amount of civs you might notice that and use most, if not all features of the new expansion, on small one the AI might say "screw it" and you'll be left with Ages mechanic and city states new features, because diplomacy still feels rather pointless. Overall good expansion, but it doesn't fix the main problem with Civ6, the AI. If you like Civ6, this expansion is absolute must, but if you were holding off with getting Civ6 until expansion that fixes most of the issues, you're better off waiting for another one.
