____

My Spoiler Free Review!

mojobone

First of all, this will be a spoiler free review. Sorry, if you were looking for spoilers, but there will be none here. Also note that I did purchase the digital deluxe edition, and I will review the DLC after I play it next week. I am beginning to feel like I am the only one who is enjoying this game. Everyone is squawking about SJW and politics, but let's not forget what the entire series has been about for 36 years - defeating Nazis. Period. The current story arc began with 2009's Wolfenstein (which I would love to find my discs and play again) and we have been getting that story built on ever since. I have to admit, I was pumped when this was announced earlier this year. I enjoyed The New Order and The Old Blood, and was more than ready when this one was announced. In fact, last week, I went through and replayed both games, statring with TOB, and moving on to TNO. I played the Fergus timeline in the replay last week, and started TNC with the choice of saving Fergus in the beginning. The cutscenes in the game are lengthy and tie gameplay together nicely. Like any other modern FPS, I made sure to take the time to search all of the levels for hidden goodies, and I am far from disappointed. I have also made it a point to check every nook, door, airvent, and window. Just in case. I also stop and listen to NPCs (many will give you side missions) I just finished the Fergus timeline and I have 4 of the Ubercommanders left to kill in the post game playthrough. I am currently at about 41 hours of game play since it was unlocked last Thursday night. Once I am done, I will play the Wyatt timeline. I am curious how he develops his LSD habit.. (No spoilers, please) Overall, the game has been fun. Somewhat brainless. Shoot the bad guys, find item x, solve puzzle q. A simple formula, really. Tried and true. And the game's story does remind me of a theoretical debate I had with an American History professor, 20 some odd years ago. System Specs - * Intel i7 6700K * Gigabyte Z-170X - Gaming 5 * 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2400 (4x8GB) * Samsung EVO 960 500 SSD (boot) * 4TB (2x2TB) Western Digital Caviar Black 7400RPM drives (data and apps) * Nvidia Titan Z (12GB) (Nvidia branded) * Insignia 32" TV (120hz) (4 years old with damn good picture) * Corsair Strafe RGB Silent Cherry MX Keyboard * Razer Deathadder Chroma mouse Pros - * Solid game play mechanics. Run, jump, shoot, duck, lean. All top notch. * Excellent story. They really took the alternate history to the next level in this game. * Plenty of surprises and hidden gags. Make sure to stop and look around, when safe to do so. * Set Roth and his cat. (Play the game and you will understand) * The character of Sig Engel. Interact with her as much as possible. The laughs are wonderful. * Michelle Forbes as BJ's mom (loved her in ST:TNG, BSG, and 24)! And the rest of the voice cast. First rate. * The albums. You can see where music would have gone. * Venus. Nuff said. * Nice overal performance on Ultra setting. * No lame escort missions where your sidekick does nothing. Cons - * No ability to replay missions from main menu (like in TNO and TOB) * Roswell was too short. They really missed an opportunity to have some fun here. * BJ's dad and his constant monologuing. While it added to the story, they beat that dead horse a little too much. * Not enough options on weapons configuration. They could have done so much more. Plenty of FPS titles allow 3 and 4 different weapon configs. Here, you are limited to 2 per weapon. Meh. * A couple of game points that made me go "But why can't I do (x)?" I think making some of those decissions play out would have been epic and created an entire set of branch off possibilities for Wolenstein 3. * Either auto-collect pickups (weapons, ammo, armor, health) or don't. I really don't like that the game randomly switches between to the two. * "Hold E to..." for newspapers, tapes, diaries, etc. Just let me press E to pick it up. I understand at the end of the level, but for pickups, nah. Ditch that. * They made sucha big deal of climbing in TOB, and completely ditched the mechanic for this game. Um, why? (Granted, that got to be a little much in TOB, but they could have found a balance in this game). * The graphical f***ery after the 383 driver update. * Have to start a new save game to play the Wyatt timeline. Fun Observations - * I am ready to make a Max Hass drinking game. Take a shot anytime someone says "Max Hass". Take 2 every time Max says it. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. * The interpersonal relationships between the crew. There is a lot of comedy to be found in this game. You just need to look an listen. The visual gags are great. If you can lurk above or behind a pair of Nazi soldiers, do it. Their convos are epic. * The KKK guys in Roswell. Stand behind them and listen. Again, you won't be disappointed. * Pay attention to your surroundings. Don't rush through the levels. Overall, I will give this game a score of 83/100. It would have scored in the 90s if we had been able to replay missions from the beginning (of the mission) in the main menu. Nor can you switch to the Wyatt timeline in your same savegame. I am enjoying this game and will continue to enjoy for the next few years until Wolfenstein 3 is released. I am sure the DLC will add depth to this wonderful series. If I read the DLC info correctly, the best way to play would be - Wolfenstein (2009), The Old Blood, The New Order, the 4 DLC games, and then The New Colossus. I guess time will tell.

great!

daniyyel

Bethesda knocked Wolfenstein out of the park this year. It is a followup to the the previous Wolfenstein game and continues the story from after the events of the main game. all the good stuff is intact. The amazing weapons make a return. I love using the cutting laser , the flamethrower and dual wielding shotguns. BJ is the same lovable guy from the first game and he still has the same desire for vengeance and freeing America. There are a host of improvements too. The environments are bigger and more detailed. The enemies are smarter and tougher this time because of improvements to the AI. The new weapons are amazing too.
