A Story About My Uncle is a first person platforming adventure game about a boy who searches for his lost uncle, and ends up in a world he couldn’t imagine existed. Take help of your uncle’s mysterious inventions that let you jump incredibly high and far through beautiful scenery, uncover clues to your uncle’s whereabouts, and meet fantastical creatures that will help you on your journey.
The movement in A Story About My Uncle is a crucial part of its core gameplay – focusing on swinging through the world with a grappling hook that gives the player a wonderful sense of speed and freedom. Soar through a game world with a unique art style and a mysterious story that unravels before you.
Grappling hook: An empowering mechanic that gives you a sensation of speed, flow and vertigo like you’ve never experienced before.
Explore the world: Visit a wonderful and exciting world - from paradisal caves, to lost civilizations and harsh, mystical landscapes.
Emphasis on story: While searching for your uncle you will meet creatures with stories and fates of their own. Take your time to explore the world to dig deeper into the narrative.
Non-violent: A Story About My Uncle is a First Person game, but it is driven by non-violent gameplay and a heavy emphasis on story and atmosphere.
This game is awesome. It's not very often that GOOD first person platforming comes along, and A Story About My Uncle totally nails it. Add in the beautiful visuals, the unique mechanics, and the great story telling, this game has quickly jumped up to one of my favorites. There were a few times when the mechanics were almost TOO good, where I'd find myself having flown passed part B in the A-B-C of a puzzle, but it's never felt frustrating. Definitely worth checking out, even if it is maybe a little short.
The game as amazing graphics and physics, and deffinitely if you consider that the game is only 9$. You start the game really easy with only 1 of your abilities, and continue the levels and you will get many more, and that will change the gameplay for you. Levels get really hard, and you really need to think before completing a level, and deffinitely if your trying to not die in a level. There is only 1 downside to the game, you can play it for about 5 hours, then you have (probably) completed all the levels, and restarting the game is booring. SoI recommand buying it, but be prepaired to not play more then about 5-6 hours.
Short version: -------------------- + very much fun to "fly" through this nice looking and interresting world + I like the way the story is being told (like a bedtime story) + nice visuals ~ sometimes hard to find the right way ~ the story itself is "ok". Not bad, but also not great - playtime (about 3h - 4h) Long version: ------------------- This is one of my favourite games. To be honest the title of this games does not sound that interesting and the graphics might be a bit outdated (but still very nice in my opinion), but it's really worth it to take a closer look at this game. The story is being told like a bedtime story. The character you play, tells his daughter the story about his journey when he was searching for his missing uncle and discovered a different world. You'll find a suit invented by your uncle that let you jump high and far through the scenery. Also included in this suit is some kind of grappling hook that you can (or better have to) use to swing through this new world (and to use this, is SO MUCH FUN!) So now you start your journey, discovering this world on your way to find your missing uncle. The playtime is really short. I finished the game in about 3 ? hours. And if you don?t fall in the ground as often as I did, you can finish it much faster. But you will fall in the ground very often ;) Like I said it was a lot of fun "flying" through this world, but there are many places where you don?t see where to go next at the first time. So when I was wondering where to go next, what I did was to jump in a direction and try if I can grab a rock or something else nearby. Aaaand.....what a surprise.....I fell in the ground ^^ But even if you see where the right way is, it?s often not easy to follow it. That can get a bit frustrating after trying the same thing over and over again. But this is the only thing that makes this game difficult, because you don't have any enemy to fight. And that's a good thing in my opinion, because that way you can really enjoy discovering this beautiful world and the feeling to "fly" through the air. So would I recommend this game? YES, absolutely. BUT: Considering the playtime of only 3h - 4h I would wait for a good discount to buy it.
A short first person platformer with a suit that gains the powers to jump high, run fast, attach a hook to objects to swing from or to pull himself forward, and to use rocket boots. The story is framed as a man telling his daughter the story of how he entered a strange world while searching for his missing uncle. As he finds things left behind by his uncle the objects causes him to tell other stories to his daughter as you continue to traverse the environment, these stories are often sweet and give you more insight on the father and daughter. It can be very enjoyable to explore the beautiful environments while using the suit to swing or long jump around the map. The final levels do start to drag on and where you are supposed to hook on to starts to get difficult to spot. Collectibles don't seem to do anything or add to story. The hook seems to have trouble working sometimes, either occasionally getting you stuck on things or the physics causing strange things to happen.
This was an interesting mix of logic puzzles/platformer/story game/spiderman and I can't even begin to describe just how in awe I am that this was never done before. The grapple mechanics are very intuitive and i could spend all day just swinging about and using my rocket boots. I just wish the game was a little longer, or at least open ended, because once I finished the story line I wanted to keep playing and discovering new areas. Replaying the main story isn't as interesting the second time around (and really your just trying to beat your times or doing challenges), but it is still just so much fun to grapple around and do silly things. You really do feel as if your flying through the air and playing this game makes me wish for more like this. <3
