Having played the game, and enjoying it, I cannot recommend it enough. For a fairly dated game, it does definitely stand the test of time, at least in my opinion. You can get quite a lot of enjoyment out of the game, with or without cheats. While it is a good game, it does suffer from the confusing controller scheme that plenty of other old games suffer from. I don't feel as if though it really downs the quality of the game to any extent, in fact it's still a good game, just it takes some time to get used to. It is definitely a must-play game, and definitely a landmark in gaming history.
I recently bought the whole half life pact on steam, to see what's all the fuss about. Shame or not, i've never plyed any of these games before, with the exception of counter strike. I started at the beginning, and boy, it was an interesting journey. The first half life starts off slowly. It's like half an hour before you get a weapon, any weapon, until then, you just walk, get your gear, ride the train, start the experiment, and marvel at the graphical achievements. By the way yeah, it looks dated, of course, yet....if you chack what games looked like back then, facial animations were next to impossible, as well as a few other things we take for granted. So yes, the game looks like it's made out of bricks, but even the,m it's kinda nice. The story is okay, but it does ultimately end on a cliffhanger, on non ending, so if you're bothered by such things as you should be, wait for the third game. It could come out any century now i heard :D By the way, there are no cutscenes here. there is an instance where you can't really move, but apart from that, the game is under your control for the whole duration, so you can experience every event in your own terms. Well..almost....you really shouldn't jump into explosions and such. The NPCs really give life to this game. In today's standards they are nothing special, yet still, it's good to have them around. This world can be scary alone. The enemies....boy, they are mean! You have beehive handed gigantic grunts, face hugging crabs, zombies, beam shooting lizards, sonic reptiles, and other nasties. To top all that, there are also Human commandoes, who are really tough enemies. They are easily the best part of the game, apart from when the aliens and they meet, and spectacular monster infighting ensues. There are a few "puzzles", but they can be easily figured out. There are occasional platforming sections, which are needlessly hard, and also....climbing ladders is the most dangerous thing here. Seriously, i fell to my death more time, then exploded in this game. climbing up is anoying anough, because detaching is done by jumping, but climbing down...you have to yoump on the ladder, and if you miss, you're toast. Anyway, it is a nice, long story driven FPS, that runs smootly on any system, and really fun to play. It could be released today as is, and still would be a success...albaeit as an indy game, but still :)
In my opinion, the game is very playable and pleasant even in 2017. Surprisingly, I did not mind a bit dated graphics and sounds. Thanks to this game I remembered good old shooters from the turn of the century. Half Life offers us a mixture of shooting with some thinking. The stages are varied, as are the locations. All time masterpiece you must simply know!
Half-life is a great game! The game is beautifully created with passion and creativity. The game play is amazing and to say it's an old game the graphics are sweet as. The story line is smashing and to be honest it can be a long game to complete unless you know what to do and how to solve the puzzles that require both skills and brain power. Over all I would rate this game 10 out of 10 (10 for being a fun game to play) I hope my review on this game has either convinced new players to play Half-Life in confidence.
What can be said about one of the most influencial PC games of all time? It is a great first person adventure, filled with mystery, a unique story and a plethora of interesting enemies. I absolutely love the isolation you feel when escaping Black Mesa, and when you finally reach the surface it's just as dangerous. Of course it hasn't aged well, but that isn't a problem at all with the game. It is an absolute must play for people new to Steam and Valve.
