Old school.

You may remember it, it's still in your heart, and you will never forget it. Packed with amazing moments and story, you smash your way thru hordes of HECUs and XEN aliens, which will bring you to an end of evolution. Best game ever made.

Best Birthday present

I remember getting this game from a relative, a few weeks after my birthday. He passed it down, because he found it boring with all the walking an train riding around, and he didn't know what to do. Not speaking English didn't help... At 13 I wasn't much better at understanding everything they said, but i figured out the experiment(wasn't that hard of course...) and after the explosion, my mind was blown as well. My only other fps at the time was Id software's games, and boy, this was different. Every enemy was a different challenge, every weapon handled differently and blown you up if you warn't careful. It's been 18 years since i first played it, and i still have fond memories...partly because i played it again a few months ago. So, there is nothing left to say but: MAKE HALF LIFE 3 !!!!!!

Really remarkable

Half Life is one of the first scary games I've experienced. It's unique in its style, atmosphere, gameplay and story. Graphics are also quite good, for a game from that year. The world feels in a way dangerous and scary. The game will often put the player in a near death situation. Health doesn't regenerate and the only way to heal is by using some items (which are rare and hard to find) and at particular healing stations. So, you will often fight to save your last health points. The design of the alien creatures is outstanding - I can hardly think of more disgusting and frightening creatures, presented in a video game. There are some tough enemies - like bosses, which require more effort to be defeated - like solving a certain puzzle or finding some weak spots. In conclusion, Half Life is reasonably famous, because it really is an exceptional game and every gamer should at least try going through its remarkable world.

If you don't own this your library is far from complete.

Considering Gordon Freeman's lack of dialogues, I should remain silent and just say "go buy this game right now". Half-Life is one of the best FPS games ever made, and not for the gameplay itself but for the step further in narrative tools. This is not a great game just because it is comforting to shoot at your enemies, this is a great game because it is the kind of story you expect when you purchase an AAA nowadays. No matter how many years have passed, Hal-Life is a fresh experience you don't have to miss.

Unforseen consequences indeed

There is much a could say about Half-Life, one of the first videogames I played, but I think that it would be better (and easier) to just play the game for yourself. For someone familiar with the FPS genre, this game won't take too long to complete (hard mode not included), but it will certainly prove to be a memorable experience. With solid gameplay, excellent soundtrack (that you can hear about 5% of the time), scary-looking monsters (including headcrabs, zombies, vortiguants and alien grunts) as well as competent human enemies (well-programmed HECU marines and Black Ops Assassins), the immersive atmosphere specific to the 90s (though downgraded a bit 17 years later) and a not so original plot conveyed in an original (at the time at least) way, which will leave you with more questions than answers at the end, a trait specific to the series (what is the deal with the so-called G-man?). This game is a must-play even if you're not really interested in shooter games with a touch of horror. It's one of the most influential and original games in gaming history, and that is saying something.
