Real-time against real pilots; this is Star Wars space combat as it was meant to be! Featuring challenging real-time dogfights of 2 to 8 players, Star Wars™: X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter is one of the most historically significant space combat simulators ever made. Never before were virtual pilots able to climb into the cockpit of an Empire or Rebellion starfighter and have the choice of flying alone or with others, cooperatively or competitively.
Fly over 50 combat missions in nine meticulously enhanced Star Wars starfighters with or against your friends. Or engage in melees, taking on all rivals, to determine once and for all who is the greatest starfighter pilot in the galaxy. The power of the Force™ resides in the most skilled and daring pilot.
Choose your craft and choose your weapons, but most of all, choose your wingmates very carefully. Your life may depend on it!
Multiplayer modes supporting up to 8 players over LAN.
Over 50 combat missions and nine iconic spacecrafts to choose from.

X-Wing vs TIE Fighter originally launched as a multiplayer focused game, which still played like TIE Fighter and X-Wing, fun at the time but that would be horribly dated now and not really worth playing. The expansion Balance of Power added two 15 mission campaigns to the game, one for the Empire and one for the Rebel Alliance featuring the same event but with different outcomes. The B-Wing was added and this was the most modern version of the game, until X-Wing Alliance, but you are going to be getting less missions and a shorter campaign than what is offered in the other games, likely giving this one the worst value and least interesting overall story, the story being very good in X-Wing Alliance and TIE Fighter. Something that is new in this game is that the campaign missions support eight player co-op. This is probably the last game in the series that you should get, unless you want to experience them in order, but it is still worth playing.
