Game description

Behind every box office hit is a Hollywood mogul… In The Movies Superstar Edition, that mogul is you.

Starting out at the dawn of cinema, it's up to you to build your studio from an empty lot into a glittering Hollywood empire by producing must-see blockbusters, creating huge stars and giving the movie-going public exactly what they want to see. It's not all award-parties though… you'll need to balance spiralling budgets, fierce competition, and worst of all, actors' egos if you want to make it to the top.

When it's time to start the cameras rolling, settle into the director's chair! The Movies comes packed with tools to help you write and direct your own films. Once you've polished your films to perfection, you can upload them to YouTube and show the world your best shots.

Included in the Superstar Edition is the Stunts & Effects expansion pack, which adds more sets, costumes, props, vehicles and backdrops for your virtual productions, along with a new employee type: the stuntman, and a host of new creative options with which to dazzle the audience.

Welcome to the dream factory, baby!

Sims Hollywood

The Movies is a fairly unique game, even after the several years now since it was first released. The game takes a Sims type approach, but puts you in control of one movie studio and it's production. The game starts in the early days on cinema (black and white, silent, etc.) and progressively moves on from there. You will build a studio, hire actors, directors, set builders, etc. and then use them to make short movies to be released and rated. The main point of the game is competition for a better star rating than the other studios. The movie maker and Superstar edition of this version of the game offer some intriguing options. The stock movie making mechanic in the storyline is fairly basic, but you can use it outside of the main game to put together your own short films. It's surprisingly robust for those wanting to delve into it. As part of the Superstar edition you get a significant upgrade it available sets and items for making those movies. The game runs well, and looks the part for those used to games like the already mentioned Sims, Rollercoaster Tycoon, etc. This is definitely a cool game for "tycoon" game fans, and can be pretty addicting running all the facets of the studio. Well worth a play through.
