Battlefleet gothic armada is a fun game for any Warhammer 40k fan to play. The game gives you the experience of being an admiral for your select faction such as the eldar, the orks, Chaos, and The imperium. each one of this faction feels unique in there gameplay and won't give you the same experience twice. the gameplay is a normal real time strategy game where you must command your fleet of ships in order to defeat the enemy or complete the objectives that are given to you. there are seven game modes each one with it unique objective such cruiser clash which is basically deathmatch destroy the opponents' ships to win or data recovery which is keep away where a ship has the data and either you or the enemy must keep it away. the game it self is a beautiful to look at the ships and make anyone who play the tabletop game would say that this is best representation of the original so far. this is why I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Warhammer 40k.
I recommend this game to people wanting a short, shallow experience. The graphics are lovely, the ship design and combat is fun. The first few hours are genuinely enjoyable. But it is soooo repetative. How would you like to do the same map and same mode over and over and over again? Once you remove the Eldar and Orks from the campaign, you're left fighting the same Chaos enemy repeatedly. While I found the convoy missions interesting for the first few missions, after a while I avoided them. Convoy missions against the Eldar? Don't even bother, you have a 10% chance of winning as the attacker. As the defender, however, I found a neat little trick. I'd put all my convoy ships in the corner of the map and surround them with my cruisers/battleships, forming a shield against the incoming Eldar attack. The Eldar AI freaked out and they just floated around my stationary forces until they died. I enjoyed the scripted missions, but those are few and far between. So all you're really left with are the same few skirmish missions to play 1000 times. I'm on 100 hours play time now and I still haven't finished the main campaign, but once I do, I doubt I'll play this game much. Great idea, but somehow there just isn't enough variety.
Battlefleet Gothic Armada is an RTS version of Games-Workshop's tabletop game. It takes place in the Warhammer 40,000 universe and includes 4 main races: Orks(Savage space orcs), Imperium(the crusaders and governing body of the sector), Chaos(Evil corrupt men), and Eldar(Space Elf Pirates). All of these races play very differently which is awesome but some are harder than others. The battles are small, which I thought was bad at first. But after seeing how much control you have over each ship, such as maneuvers, targeting priority, etc, having many more would get crazy. All in all I'm really enjoying this game and am looking forward to dlc and expansions down the road.
Battlefleet Gothic: Armada is a tactical space combat game set in the Warhammer 40K universe. The single player campaign has you playing as an Imperial Admiral defending the Gothic sector from different enemy forces, it does a good job with the setting and is enjoyable to play, though you are basically just playing skirmish games with the added objective of holding planets while getting some story dialogue. The multiplayer and skirmish modes allow you to play as the Imperials, Chaos, Orks, and Eldar with each faction having a very unique look and play style. Imperials have great armor, Orks are good at ramming with faster speed and stronger boarding units, Chaos have better range, and the Eldar are the fastest fleet and their shields work in an entirely different way than the others. When you play in multiplayer or skirmish modes you will have to choose a fleet, as you play in battles you will level up, gain renown, and improve your ships this will allow you to add upgrades and unlock additional stronger ships and ship types. There are a good variety of skills and upgrades for ships to get although certain factions and ships will do better with certain upgrades (and some will be locked) so there isn't as much customization as there appears to be. Crew can also be upgraded giving small bonuses to different abilities, although two of crew just don't seem very useful unless you are trying to build a ship for one of the game's modes that requires you to escape the area and even then it might not be the best idea as the ship is weaker. The game does require micromanaging but this is helped somewhat by being able to set the AI to automatically use abilities when they are available (helpful for boarding actions and lightning strikes at close range) and you can set the distance and side that you want each ship to engage on. A detailed stat breakdown after battles would have been helpful for players to better understand how well each individual ship did so they could compare how useful weapons and abilities are for their chosen strategy. The developer looks like they will be continuing to work on the game with new types of matchmaking being added, Space Marine faction coming in June, the Tau faction being added later (free for people that bought the game within two months of launch), a stat page of your history, new skills, color customization, allowing you to choose pre-set behaviors for your ship (it is currently a poor design decision that you couldn't do that), and more content seems to be planned for the future. Battlefleet Gothic is a very enjoyable game that seems like it will only improve in the future.
Ever since homeworld, I've been waiting for a decently new space rts game. So many games have come and gone that have failed many if not everyone's expectations. This game for one is actually playable. By that I mean, it's not massively buggy. Thank the emperor. Secondly, the gameplay is just awesome. The numerous ships, abilities, weapons, crews, etc...layer upon layers of tactical options really make the game stand out among others. This is what a true rts should be like. You are required to pay attention to your ships, aiming, and what your enemies are doing. The biggest difference Battlefleet has in comparison to other rts games is that there is no base building. It's more or less replaced by fleet maintenance. you have to repair and take care of your ships after every battle. I welcome this because it makes sense as you are the leader of your fleet. I recommend Battlefleet to every space rts fan as it's likely to be the only decent space rts game to come for a long while.
