I got this game from a friend and I was shocked that it was actually good. It's refreshing and quite fun to fly around as a fairy, and the battle system is great. There's a lot of quests to take on, and this is a surprisingly good RPG that I never would have even played had it not been for someone gifting it to me. It's not a very challenging game, but I thought the graphics were decent, the soundtrack wasn't that bad, and it was a lot of fun flying around the semi large open hub areas, trying to find all the secrets and just exploring the different areas. As for the story and characters, they're there because they have to be, but it's all just filler. If you buy this, you're buying it for the gameplay and uniqueness and originality. I would recommend this turn based RPG for anyone who like fantasy themed games.
This game is a kind of softcore cRPG with turn based combat, simple story and linear gameplay. It may be a good game for younger players. Still I enjoyed playing it for few hours because of funny combat and simple yet nice character development. Graphics in Faery is just ok. Nothing breattaking. I'd say elegent simplicity. That's it. With sounds, especially voice acting, it's not the case. Voices are a bit disappointing. Music is there, and you don't pay it much heed, which is good, meaning it's not interfering with the game, rather flowing around and through it. If you like faeries try it. If not, well, what are you doing reading this anyway?
A more casual approach to the rpg genre, won't take many hours to go through the entire game, but it's a very satisfying experience if you love unique fantasy worlds. You are a fairy (male or female, you decide through a simple editor with basic but enough choices), flying your way around the different worlds/places, which (moving around) may need some time to get used to. You team up with companions to follow you around, and you can use them in battle, where a classic turn-based combat system is featured. Leveling is in the package of course, with skills/powers awaiting to be unlocked and improved, plus some visual customization comes with some of them. Speaking of customization, seeking of new and better equipment is here too. Overall, a complete rpg experience, won't provide a great challenge or take much of your time, but you will certainly enjoy it.
Faery: Legends of Avalon – Chapter 1, is not just your average RPG, this captivating story with nice but lose ties to traditional Fae lore, has you flying thru some very nicely and richly detailed maps, four in all, with promises of two more game instalments to come, I was instantly hooked and played straight thru till the end of chapter 1 in my first play, which was about 6hrs worth give or take an hour. It comes with a small but nice character editor, where you can play a male or female faery and adjust your facial looks for an individual look, skills, armour and weapons are acquired while playing, movement is done by flying, which I found to be very easy to learn and a lot of fun to do, zipping about on these free roam maps, these maps although at first feel a bit small, but open up and unlock other areas as you complete the quests. While playing you will meet and recruit companions to help you on your quest to save the realms, by talking to and helping others in the different realms thru these quests and which quite often have alternative ways of completing them I might add, sometimes thru combat sometimes by gathering info and ingredients and of course good old exploring of the maps. The look of the game is quite clean and polished, with some minor text inconsistency, I believe from the game being translated, there is also no voice acting, but I found this not to be a bad point as the music is very nice and fits quite well with the game. All in all I found this game to loads of fun and I am looking forwards to the next instalment, I hope you also enjoy this game as much as I did, very refreshing. Graphics – Very Good Sound effects & Music - Good Gameplay – Lots of FUN
A friend of mine bought me this game, as he really enjoyed it and thought I would too. Unfortunately, I had to disappoint him. I just didn't think that Faery: Legends of Avalon was that great of a game. Because I got it for free, I didn't really care too much, but I would not have spent $15 bucks on it. Maybe more like $7.50. The voice acting isn't too great in the game, and you end up reading the subtitles more than actively listening. The mechanics of moving around (flying) are okay, but I feel they could have been made much better. The story wasn't very engaging. They had several characters and were trying to make a good story, but I just didn't get into it at all, and didn't find the story or characters to be very exciting. Overall, it's not a terrible game, but it isn't the most polished either. If you enjoy fantasy settings and want to support a smaller developer, pick this game up, but I'd personally recommend getting it on sale.
