MAKING HISTORY: The Calm & The Storm is a true grand strategy game that puts players in control of global conflict, combining a highly sophisticated AI with rich historical detail.Read full description
Making History The Calm and the Storm was originally being developed as a product to help history teachers explain the basics of WWII, it ended up becoming a retail product. It's not the best realistic or educational tool as the unpredictable AI may constantly make and break alliances and you and the AI are under no requirement to stay even remotely true to actual history. The game allows you to play as any major nation you want while also experiment with different starting points, you can begin the game before the war or at the start, middle, or near the end point of the war. You are allowed to control not only your nation's war production but also science research, industry, and trade. These maybe difficult and complicated things to manage in some strategy games but here is is fairly simple with different territories generating different things at different values. The colorful but also flat and undetailed map with units sitting on it makes the game look similar to a game of Risk. Not a bad choice for someone interested in just getting started with games where more than military strength has to be managed but the game just isn't that interesting combat, production, AI, or event wise.
