Nioh is a third person action RPG that owes a lot to Demon/Dark Souls. The areas where it stays similar to Dark Souls is the third person combat against powerful enemies and bosses, attacks taking stamina, dying causing you to lose your experience points unless you can make it to your body before dying again, dead players showing up where they died, and you have the ability to summon other players to your game as an ally. Separating the game from its inspiration is the more fast paced combat, being able to switch between three different stances with each weapon, and areas being separated into missions and sub missions rather than having one large world. You can make use of five different kinds of melee weapons that all feel different enough, three kinds of ranged weapons, magic, and ninja skills, each of the stats that you spend skill points on will give bonuses to certain weapon or ability types. As you progress through the game you will unlock guardian spirits that can give you passive bonuses and can be activated to give you stronger attacks once you fill a meter from killing enemies. Enemies are made of humans and demons from Japanese lore, same of the demons can be dealt with by making certain gesture instead of killing them. Combat and boss fights are enjoyable and you have a good variety of equipment and skill options to make a character that fits your playstyle. I'd recommend getting the complete addition as the DLC is both enjoyable, adds new enemies, and adds the Tonfa and Odachi weapons that can be used through the main game.
Nioh is not just a great or superb game, it's literally a "Masterpiece"! Nioh is excellent in story and narrative, and unlike the series inspired by it, the Souls series, it has a more straightforward narrative and storyline and is not based on personal perceptions, like the Souls titles. The developers have succeeded in combining a good story with an engaging narrative and profound personages and achieve a completely successful outcome which is fully capable of attracting the players and keeping them interested in continuing the story of the game. Nioh is a very special game and its design and visual effects are also special. creating a world based on feudal Japan and old Japanese houses, classical environments and specialties for the country, and the combination of this environment with the dreaded and completely fantasy monsters which have the best possible designs, has been a very difficult task for Team Ninja, and the managed to handle it perfectly and you will enjoy every moment of your presence in the world of the game and it reminds you the masterpieces of Souls , but with a completely separate character without imitation. Nioh is a bit harder to play compared to the Souls series, and you have to be very much ready to play it and you will need much patience and endurance to beat the game, So are you up to challenge for one of the toughest games of your time? if your answer is YES, Nioh is the best option for you!
This game has the difficulty and mechanics of Dark souls with the flashy combos and fast paced combat of Ninja Gaiden. If you're looking for a difficult dungeon crawler type of game, look no further than Nioh.
Team Ninja have crafted one of the most engaging games on the ps4. Its a game in the vein of Dark Souls. The combat is deep and thoroughly satisfying. Surprisingly it also succeeds in replicating the dark and depressing atmosphere of the Souls series. The dungeon designs are excellent and boss fights are epic. Besides the punishing difficulty , there is very little to complain about here.
