June 1916, in the midst of WWI, the English submarine HMS E18 mysteriously disappeared while on a mission in the frigid, brackish waters of the Baltic Sea. In 2009 the wreckage of the submarine was finally found. But what really happened to the crew of HMS E18?Read full description
Tales from the Void is basically a survival action game where you have to survive in a low gravity environment while shooting enemies! This sounds like it?s purely action but it?s actually not. The game is very tactical akin to FTL. For instance, the dwindling supplies mechanic adds a lot of tension, making you micromanage your resources carefully! The dwindling supplies mechanic also serves to contextualize and shape your next choice of mission. For an example, you may be low on food and there are three missions available; one offers food, the other people and the third weapons, however all of their secondary objectives suggest there will be food at those other missions. As you can see, it?s a hard tactical choice to make! The combat itself is very intense due to the low gravity setting where getting knocked off the level is a very real threat! Sometimes, you can die due to meteors as well or other environmental hazards. All of these threats make for a very hectic experience needless to say. I found that the selection of weapons was very expansive, ranging from pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, machine guns, to various explosive weapons from grenades to mortars! To add onto the hectic combat, friendly fire adds another element that you have to take into account for! You may bring up to 5 marines on a mission but having too many marines may lead to friendly fire when using weapons such as rocket launchers. You have to fear friendly fire because permanent death is a real threat in Tales from the Void! I really enjoyed the game because it was not only tactical but also very fun combat wise!
