Originally developed by Ensemble Studios and reimagined in high definition by Hidden Path Entertainment, Microsoft Studios is proud to bring Age of Empires II: HD Edition to Steam!
Age of Empires II HD Edition brings back so many memories to me as I used to play the original game all the time when I was just a kid, and now, I can revisit Age of Empire II again, now with re-worked, improved and revived multiplayer mode. This version actually doesn't improve the visual of the game, the graphics and everything else still the same (Except for Steam workshop support, but I'll get there later), this HD Edition just fixes some visual bugs (Water graphics, for example) that started to appear since Windows 7. Like I said before, this version also comes with Steam Workshop support, which means: Community Mods. You can create your own scenarios, civilizations and game modes, shared with other players, as well as play and experience what the rest of the community have created too. Recommended.
The age of empires series is one of the best in the RTS genre, and it used to be ahead of it's time with it's diplomacy, many many units, and the need for well thought aout tactics instead of just spamming the battlefield with the same kind of units. The HD version is a much needed upgrade. While the original game aged well, it's engine didn't and on modern systems the old game looks weird, and has a tendency to slow down, and downright crash. This version has no such problems. The single player mode has many historical campaigns, which are all very well made, and highly recommended, but the main course here is the multiplayer as always. Thanks to steam, it is easier then ever to find players, and start up a game. Sadly, this version lacks LAN play, but i guess it's understandable. All in all,a very good game. If you like the RTS at all this one is a must have.
What can you say about this game, except that it's a true classic among strategy and history lovers? It's basically the game that made the strategy genre so lovable and iconic. It's worth every penny in my opinion and having a digital copy of this game is essential to any true strategy game addict. This game is so damn good, that one day you'll get bored of it and forget all about it as new games come out, but in a month or two, the reinstall button is gonna be there for you as therapy. Doing the campaign and playing with friends to defeat the AI is quite fun actually and the idea of raising a small settlement of people into a huge civilization is quite stunning. As a bonus, this is a remastered editions with better graphics, but we all know, it's not the graphics that brought us to this game... it's the very gameplay I spoke of previously. Endless hours of enjoyment and struggles to make your civilization survive and conquer others. Great, iconic, amazing, worthy every cent/penny game, a must have for the avid gamer! 10/10 !
Age of Empires 2 is a fun game where you build a base, an army, gather resources, explore and eliminate your enemies. It may not look the best graphically but don't let that stop you from playing as its one of the best real-time strategy games ever created. The singleplayer campaigns are historically based meaning you'll be following the stories of people like William Wallace, Joan of Arc or Saladin. These scenarios aren't too long but can be a real challenge on the higher difficulties. This game still has a good amount of people playing multiplayer. It doesn't take me very long to find a game. Age of Empires 2 had a lot of custom maps a year or two after it originally released but finding and downloading them wasn't the easiest thing to do. This version of the game has a Steam Workshop which makes it easy to download new campaigns, maps and a few other things.
This game is a workaholic. It simply will not die. And why should it? This game represents the pinnacle of Real Time Strategy gameplay. It mixes (re)playability, ambiance, and story in just the right blend to keep you captivated for hours. There is no "I'll just play for a few minutes." with this game. I bought this game when it originally came onto the market in 1999. The HD reboot is WELL worth 20.00 USD even today. A few bugs do crop up in the game, but they are so minor most casual gamers will not notice them. I give a 120% recommendation on purchasing this game!
