Fun, but flawed

AoE 3, is a deep experience, but, it's also a flawed one. Why? For starters, it's jump into the 3d realm, leaves everything feeling...small. The maps are smaller, the campaigns are smaller, the AI is smaller. Everything feels small. It's not a bad thing, it's just not epic. Another thing, the price tag is a hefty one for a game that's fast approaching its 11th birthday. The game plays as it should, and its introduction to Steam streamlined the online playability. It also introduced the card options which, to me, made the game that much more fun. Online play is steady, with very little lag and drops. My recommendation, buy it on sale, then get 2 copies so you can play a friend, which is what makes the game a blast.

Worth the ?30!!

AoE is an awesome game and one of the very best RTS games I've ever played. I bought it a while ago and didn't play it for a while, but my friend ask if I wanted a game and my love for the game began there. Not only is there a fun story to follow, with lots of different stories included in the complete collection but also multiplayer is extremely fun with friends.

The best RTS

In my opinion the best RTS of all, gameplay is fantastic, beautiful graphic, even still today, the complete collection also adds a few more campaigns giving you even more fun, and it even gives you some extra teaching a little story in a very entertaining way.

The fun side of history

I'm a huge fan of the Age of Empires series and this may be my favorite. It didn't add a ton from the previous game in my opinion other than improved graphics and mechanics, but I guess it's hard to improve perfection. If you;re just getting into the Age of Empire series, I would just stick with this game because it has basically everything the last two had.

As civilization progresses, mechanics develop further

As civilization progresses, age of empires mechanics develop further and further up to this last age when empires made history. Age of Empires III detaches itself from previous franchise titles, adding mechanics such as commercial routes or the mother country sending aid and manpower and agreements with the natives. You can now also build plantations, that work pretty much like farms do but produce gold instead, the same goes for whale hunting. Game graphic is 3D, and pretty good, after the Age of Mythology experience (which was also quite good). Same goes for the audio/music compartment, nothing to be said about that. So, why has this game had almost no-longevity and "died" after like a year after the release? Price (at the time) may have been one of the factors, for sure, but this whole game doesn't feel Age of Empires. I don't know if it's because of the (probably) unnecessary complications in the gameplay or because of the bland single player campaign system but the fact remains, I didn't enjoy this title as much as I enjoyed Age of Empires I of Age of Empires II. I'd like to recommend this game to every age of empires series's fan and probably also to strategy games enthusiasts. Just don't expect the enjoyment to last as long as it did with previous age of empires, again, still don't exactly know why, but that's it.
