American Truck Simulator is made by the same company that made the fantastic Euro Truck Simulator 2. Despite this, ATS is not ETS2 in America. Compared to ETS2, ATS has a much more varied environment, better graphics and a more detailed map, as well as American trucks. However, its map is smaller, featuring only California, Nevada, and Arizona. Furthermore, ATS only has trucks from 2 companies: Peterbilt and Kenworth. So, while ATS is an excellent game by itself, I would hold off on buying it until it is improved, unless you are a fan of the genre.
As a fan of ETS2 I was eager to get into this game. It plays just as well as the other games in the series and kept me occupied for hours at a time. However the life span of this game is somewhat short (in comparison) due to being a much newer game. It is difficult to compete with the years of development and expansions to ETS2 and the amount of content is significantly less. I am looking forward to this game 5 years down the track when (hopefully) there is plenty of more to explore, would love to compare this to real life.
When you are looking for a truck simulator, then American Truck Simulator is a good start. It gives you 3 American states on the west coast to let you show your expertise. In the future more states will come as downloads. When you're familiar with ETS2, then ATS is also a good choice. Made by the same developers it looks very familiar. But it has its own look and feeling. America is not Europe, of course. Play the game, drive the long American roads to earn your money, (the roads will even seem longer as soon as the re-scaling is done), buy garages and build a fleet of Peterbilts and Kenworths. Hire drivers to make your company even more successful. Enjoy the landscapes while on duty, get overwhelmed with colors of sundown. Be amazed by the architecture of the big cities and huge bridges. Overall I enjoyed this gameplay plenty. I recommend it to everyone.
This game is fun even when though its work. Maps are a little compressed but they are fixing this in a future update and are slowly adding more trucks to the game. Hours of gameplay in this game and more in the works!
American truck simulator is a decent game made by the same people who made Euro Truck Simulator. Other than new trucks and a different location i can't see too much of a difference from ETS(Euro Truck simulator). Much of america is still locked, but the developers are making free DLC's with the different maps as they are made. I got tired of the game pretty fast, because of the lack of map and diversity. The map is currently very tiny in comparison to ETS2, therefore it get's a relatively low score.
