Game description

"_You'll laugh, you'll die, you'll blow the teeth out of a wandering Borok the size of a small camper van. _" - Eurogamer.net

In Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, the third campaign add-on for Borderlands 2, players will enter an uncharted territory deep in the swamps of Pandora where a massive Hyperion ship has crashed. The wreckage is rumored to have stockpiles of loot. But watch out, mutated creatures, and armies of savages also have an interest in the ship. As ferocious and primal as they may seem, the mysterious Professor Nakayama claims to be their diabolical leader, and he’s calling all the shots.

Key Features:

  • The Best guns in Borderlands 2 yet! This safari trip ain’t just ‘bout taking down big game with huge, senselessly overpowered weapons. It’s also about hunting for new loot in an effort to glean Seraph crystals, and get even bigger guns to take back into the main game.

  • Defend Hammerlock’s Hacienda: Seek out Sir Hammerlock and his rustic hunting lodge, man the turrets and fan boats to take out enemy vehicles, babysit Hammerlock's pet Skag and wait for him to... ewwww.

  • To Hunt and Be Hunted: Face a new Raid Boss, new World Bosses, mutant creatures great and greater, and waves of foul-odor-ed heathen hoards. In the swamp, no one can hear your smell.

  • All New Swamp Location: Alien vegetation, marshy water, scraggly mountains, and rolling mist form a dangerous and exotic zone, all in an as-of-yet-unseen part of Pandora.

  • New Swamp Vehicle: Head out in to the swamps on the new loaded Swamp Fan Boat to do battle against enemy vehicles and mutant big game – overalls and moonshine not included.

  • New Heads & Skins: Spoils are awarded to those who seek out and defeat the rarest enemies in the Swamps. If it’s on the endangered species list; kill it immediately, because it’s all about you.

A fairly average DLC, which is rather coherent with the Borderlands universe, but with difficulty very badly dosed and with a rather short lplayime, especially the main quest. I advise you to play in groups but if you are alone, be well equipped and with a fairly high level. Note the presence of a new vehicle, which is unfortunately rather little exploited. I recommend taking this DLC in promotion or in the GOTY edition.

Really Just Filler

This definitely feels a bit like it was thrown together simply to hit the four story DLCs mark for the Season Pass. While the other additional content each have at least one strong suit, (humor, story, theme, etc.) the Big Game Hunt really is just another "find and kill the big monster" quest like a lot of others in the game except you have no real motivation and the setting is bland. I did find the power-swapping tiki-like enemies an interesting challenge because they force you into switching weapons and using ones you might not normally use. That being said, playing this after completing all of the main story meant I was a little over-powered for the area and nothing really presented any real challenge besides battling the boredom of the wide open map devoid of interesting characters or features. This is by far the weakest link in the Borderlands 2 DLC chain and I can't really recommend it for purchase on its own. If you have the Season Pass it's not so bad that you should actively avoid playing it though.

Ooh eeh ooh ah ah ting tang walla walla bing bang!

Out of the 4 story-DLCs for Borderlands 2, this one might feature the lowest amount of content. Also, while having 3 raid bosses ( Voracidous, Dexiduous and Omnd-Omnd-Ohk), 2 of the 3 are "hidden" (which means you're going to have to go through a lot to get them summoned). Vora still haunts me ( on higher levels it's just...unstoppable without a party), Dexiduous doesn't really worth the effort you put into summoning him ( the fight is long and boring, the loot is almost worthless) and you gotta search for Omnd-Omnd-Ohk like you did with Varkids (and everyone just loooved doing that /s ). The setting is my personal favourite of the 4 DLCs, it's rather captivating. Also it almost feels like they've done a few things just to mess with you and give you this "Hunting" feel. What I'm talking about is, for example they give you a cool new vehicle, but you're still going to spend the majority of time on foot, because it can't traverse this uncharted environment ( hunters leaving the safety of their vehicles!) . Most of the new enemies are verocious and / or really bothersome, leading you to pick and choose the "right" fights, another thing you must do when you yourself are on a Big Game Hunt in real life. The voice acting is good as always ( Dietmar was a blast to listen to !) and I really liked the "fight" with Professor Nakayama. Nevertheless, some choices here and there really hurt this DLC, so I don't really think you should grab this one at full price.

Might Want to Skip This

Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt is the third story expansion for Borderlands 2. DISCLAIMER: This dlc is 4 story missions long! It literally can be finished in under 2 hours if you pace yourself quickly. While offering a plethora of side missions, this dlc felt the weakest out of all 4 in my opinion. The enemies are relatively annoying to fight, the side missions aren't the best, but there are some good things in this dlc. The atmosphere is awesome and there are plenty of large areas to explore. The Hoplite is the best shield ever. Also the new vehicle is fun to use. This was the worst story expansion in my opinion but if you really feel obligated to, then at least get this on sale.

Hammerlock and Monsters

Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt is the most disappointing DLC of the 4 story-based DLCs for Borderlands 2. The story is bland and not very memorable, the enemies are forgettable (except for the Witch Doctors, but that's because they're RIDICULOUSLY difficult for no good reason), and the guns specific to this DLC don't compare to the awesomeness of the guns from the other 3. There are too many 'kill X number of Y monsters' quests and that's really where this DLC falls flat for me. It's still good and worth picking up if you want more BL2 witty dialogue and fantastic environments (the best part of this DLC), but play the other 3 first.
