“With a fantastic atmosphere far beyond most indie RPG titles, and a large amount of replay value Celestian Tales is a game that JRPG fans should not miss... I would wager that it is one of the most well crafted Indie JRPG’s that I’ve played in recent years.” - 99/100 – ModVive
You are not special The world is not about to end There is no ancient prophecy No giant mythical beast is about to be unleashed But, war is coming, and your moral duty is to your family and your people Right or wrong is for you to decide…
Celestian Tales: Old North is a turn-based role-playing game with lush hand-painted environments, emotive character portraits, memorable characters, moral decisions and a sprawling engaging storyline that is told through the eyes of six playable characters. Created in the traditional JRPG style, Celestian Tales: Old North allows players to become part of a diverse group of young warriors in training who must learn who they are and where they stand as they develop the skills they will need to survive the impending war with a dangerous threat from another land.
Embark on an expansive journey of discovery wrought with conflict and moral choices where players take on the role of one of the six playable characters and follow their personal point of view of the events as they unfold. At times character stories will overlap with other characters’ or converge with the main story arc, in which they experience events together.
One’s truth may not be another’s. Good deeds done by someone may be perceived by another as evil. Often we see only what we want to see and believe only in what we want to believe. Whose steps will you follow as you journey in the Old North? Through whose eyes will you experience the events that unfold?
Moral Confrontations – Situations are presented to the player throughout the game that tug at moral standings and beliefs.
Unique Story – Ditches tired rehashed RPG clichés for a story where players feel the weight of their character’s actions.
Multiple Story Arcs – 6 Selectable Characters allow you to play the game from 6 different perspectives. Play through the game as all 6 characters to get the entire experience.
Traditional RPG Gameplay – Inspired by classic JRPGs with a turn-based RPG battle system that allows players to develop a personal combat style.
Beautiful Art – Lush hand-painted background visuals and environments with detailed emotive hand drawn character portraits and animated pixel-art characters running around the game.
Epic Music – A sweeping score that truly captures the pace and emotion of the story as it unfolds.

I have only finish the game with one character so i can't comment whether or not replayability is there or not. However, I find the ten hours or so needed to complete the game (for one character) rather enjoyable. The music is top notch. There's a surprising twist at the end that open up things for the next episodes. The gameplay is interesting : a classic turn-based system with a few twists of his own. The loot is sub-par though and you don't allocate points in skills or stats to build your character, the game do it for you. The difficulty curve is a bit off. At first enemies are a walk in the park but on the last big mission or two, the difficulty ramp up. The interactions between characters are interesting even if character's personality are fairly standard and their answers predictable. All in all, a good game with a good story and good music. Worth at this price tag.
Honestly, both the name an art style put me off at first. However, I heard enough good things about this to give it a shot, and it's definitely a worthwhile purchase. I still don't like how it looks, but it has a nice story, a bit cumbersome with the playing as 6 people thing, but in general really interesting, and the combat is really solid. Definitely worthwhile for RPG fans.
Celestian Tales: Old North is a classic jrpg, but a very good one. It reminds Suikoden franchise a bit, the story is intriguing and the battle system deep enough to provide a challenge. What really shines here is the fact you can beat six different story-arcs depending on what character you select. The hand-painted graphics add something peculiar to the game, making it really different from a lot of jrpgs you can find on Steam. Worth its full price.
