Cities XL (despite the very bad optimisation) is a very good looking game. Unfortunately, that's just about the only positive thing I can say about it. So much in this game is broken and yet Focus keep releasing new versions at premium prices, with a few new items and all of the old bugs. There is a huge amount of content and lots of the mechanics sound great on paper but the game just doesn't work. If the whole multiplayer planet idea that had originally been planned for the game had actually taken off and worked then maybe this game wouldn't have turned into the failure it is now, but unfortunately that isn't what happened. Before Cities: Skylines was released, Cities XL was pretty much the only modern city simulator available so it might have been worth the investment for desperate city simulator fans but now there really is no reason to buy it. Graphically they're roughly equal but Cities: Skylines is better in virtually every other way, by miles. Don't waste your money on this game.
If you never played city builder games before this will certainly make you busy for a few hours. It's not a bad game if you want to try out how some basic mechanisms of these kinds of games works. If you are looking for a more creative stuff though, which has more designing and structuring elements then It's not for you. Pros: - Nice and smooth graphics - Easy to use interface - The tutorial is quiet good. It really guides you through the basics - The road and housing construction is pretty easy if you're just play the game for economic stuff. Cons: - fps problems - The game itself is buggy - Lack of design tools and the freedom of drawing - No Multi-player
You want to play a city building game and you are tired of simcity4? Well, this is the game for you. This game lets you build a city almost to your own liking and have tons of fun while doing it. The UI is similar to all the city building games before this but it appears to be quite effective. There is also some interaction between the cities in a sense that you can trade power or garbage between cities and people can move to other cities. There are some problems that are constant and that you are going to be battling all the time such as not enough workplaces or workforce, the traffic or the pollution. But That's the problems you will face when you try to run a city I guess. The graphics are basic, not really big deal and the music is okay to have it in the background.
This game is a good alternative to Sim City. It plays very similar and has a few different options. There is a bad lag that you get when you develop your map a lot. This is because the area is so big and you have a huge amount of entities moving around that must be rendered and tracked constantly. The programmers did not understand how to optimize this properly and that is what is causing the lag you read about. I feel that this is no buggier than Sim City and the best plus is that it is not affiliated with EA, the company notorious for giving out broken games and doing little about it. I recommend this if you want a city building game. It is fun and well priced with no gimmicks like building DLC that you find with Sim City. When you buy this game, you get the entire game. Now I will get back to monitoring my Oil Dale city that is producing millions every few minutes.
Fun game that lets you build a city. Similair to the Sim city series. If you like this type of games I would recommend it. Fun gameplay and graphics are nice for this type of game. There are some performance issues though that (often) happends after you have played for and extended amount of time (2-3h+). But sometimes it occurs even around the 1h mark. The easist fix to this problem is the restart the game. But sometimes even this seem to resolve the issue. There are some great mods for this game, and as for starters I recommend at least the "User Interface Mod"
