For almost two hundred years now, the French Foreign Legion has attracted adventurers from all over the world. One of them is Claude Boulet, a 26 year-old Parisian, brought up in harmony with tough street rules. The Legion was where he found his place, and it led him straight to the hellish African savanna. A revolution inspired by the African Revolutionary Group erupted in Ivory Coast. The FDSC government forces, and the European troops supporting them, were overwhelmed by a surprise attack. As a result the enemy possesses an impressive armory. Even worse is the fact that the rebels have taken over a transport of radioactive waste on its way from nuclear power plants. They now have enough material to create several "dirty bombs" that could threaten European countries. The risk of nuclear attack has forced the international community to intervene immediately. France has reacted the fastest by transferring the elite 13th half-brigade from Djibouti to Ivory Coast. Among the several hundred men is Senior Corporal Claude Boulet. Based on tests of character he has been appointed to lead the most difficult operation of the war. Never, in his darkest dreams, did Claude expect the trouble he found himself in. From now on he will always associate Côte d'Ivoire with the war path he had to tread in the defense of freedom and democracy.
With so many FPS out there, it can be hard to know which games are worth getting, and which games are better off avoiding. COH falls right in the middle. It is by no means the best FPS that you will ever play. It lacks polish in many areas. The story is not that capturing. The choice of weapons isn't all that special. There are many reasons why some people don't like this game. However, there are also some nice things about this game. It doesn't try to be something it's not. It's a budget FPS, and that is what it does. If you enjoy lighting up bad guys, this game does that well. If you don't care too much about a good story, but just want a chance to shoot enemies, then this game does that well. This game covers all of the basics that a good FPS should have. Even though it doesn't offer a huge selection of firearms, it does offer the basics. The controls and gameplay work fine, and deliver a relatively smooth experience. Probably the best thing I can say about this game is that it was able to keep my attention until the very end. Many FPS get boring after a while, this one doesn't. Is it the best FPS you will ever play? No. Is it good enough to enjoy all the way through - definitely.
The first low budget game from city interactive I tried was SAS secure tomorrow and I enjoyed so I thought I will give another a try...sadly that was a mistake. You are cast as an NCO in the French Foreign Legion with various missions in some imaginary West African state - presumably, given the presence of the FFL, an ex-French colony. Despite this the enemy seems to labour under the impression that you are yank! Most of the features from sas secure tomorrow are in this game with the addition of some french weapons such as the FAMAS assault rilfe. This game is a lot unpolished compared to some of the other low budget titles from city interactive for example the movement is rather jerky and the game has a lot of bugs and glitches. Also for a game with poor graphics it takes ages to load!
This game certainly has some potential, as the gameplay is fantastic. You are part of the Frensh foreign legion and have to go all over the world to defeat the enemy. The graphics are modest, but the gameplay makes up for it.. Although the game is sometimes a bit fictitious, it's still a great game.
