The Vikings are back!
Loki, known from the Nordic sagas as a versatile god of lies and weaver of many intrigues against his divine "colleagues", has been banned from Asgard by Odin as a punishment for the trouble caused by the Midgard serpent. Out of spite, he abuses our four human heroes--Sigurd, the Frank, Hatschi, the brave Saracen, Bjami, and Crya--with his intrigues and traps. Cultures Northland is a tiny and cool-looking RTS that can be a little confusing in the beginning, but once you start playing, you'll eventually start to understand what you have to do to success in the game as this one plays fairly different from others RTS in the market. In Cultures, you have to combine what you know about building a civilization and a city simulator (They sound the same but the gameplay is different). You have to care about each nord and people you have in your tribe, help them grow and survive in the land, and that... Takes a lot of time and effort, so, be prepared to spend a lot of time in the game.
Cultures Northland is a Nordic themed RTS that was originally released back in 2002. What separates this game from most other RTS games is that it also includes city building and Sim like elements. Your villagers will have different kinds of jobs depending on whether or not they are male or female and will build up experience in what they are doing the more they do it. They might be fighting, harvesting resources, or creating things. Become good enough at one profession allows someone to take on another, so you will need someone else to fill in the old role, this can lead to a lot of micromanaging. The graphics are not very impressive, even for their time, but the cartoony and colorful look of the art style makes it more appealing. The audio is good, both soundtrack and sound effects. It's not a game that necessarily does everything that well but if you are looking for a different kind of RTS this can be a good one for you to try, even more so because of the low price point.
