An amazing 3D shoot 'em up

This is one of the best games I have ever played. Period. I think I enjoy it so much because of its flashy graphics, challenging difficulty and engaging story. But let me explain each aspect of the game in detail. The graphics: This game's graphics are amazing, simply put. Every boss battle is huge and looks good and the game has several cutscenes that are beautifully made. Fortunately, these are skippable as the game will require multiple retries to beat. Also, the hit boxes are pretty accurate (and if it is still not enough for you, you can play the game with visible hit boxes). The gameplay: It is basically an arcade shooter. However, there are several twists to make the game stand out. First of all, the camera changes perspectives at set points, so one moment it scrolls from left to right and the next one it does so upwards. Also, there are some moments in the story where you get an aiming reticle to shoot down key points of giant warships or hundreds of homing rockets aiming at you. You have 3 shooting modes: shooting straight, diagonally or a lock-on target. The first two can be charged for either massive amounts of damage or a shield that destroys all surrounding bullets. The bosses usually go like this: keep the lock on button pressed and avoid its attacks and when you see an opening, aim for it with the charged-up straight shot. A weak point that aims to make the game artificially longer is the fact that you get an upgrade not depending on score, but on number of times played. So to be able to beat the harder levels you have to replay the first ones again and again. Don't get me wrong, the game is fun but it feels like it has too few levels. Even with all the repaying, you can finish it in about 4 hours. That is, if you just want to finish the story. However, the game is so good you will want to play it again, trust me. The story: It is pretty basic. I don't want to give spoilers, but it is like some giant robot animes. There's this lone wolf who is truly skilled and he gets caught in a war between nations. Throughout the game, he discovers things about his past and tries to save the world from annihilation with a girl that teaches him the meaning of friendship. I think it is suitable for this type of game. The verdict: Do yourself a favour and buy it! I think it estabilishes a landmark in the genre and it is well-worth the asking price.
