Many people feared that Bethesda will ruin the Fallout franchise, when they saw that FO3 will not be isometric as earlier Fallouts. That fear was completely unfounded. Fallout 3 is one of my favorite all time games. Sure, it might look dated, but don't let that stop you from enjoying the amazing story of the game and its DLC and getting lost in the open world. However be warned, as it is not a very stable game and many bugs were present. Getting it to run on newer OSes is also a pain, but very much worth it in the end.
The game is really good overall. The story is good, the gameplay is good, and the locations are interesting. However I have encountered bugs in both the base game and dlc that were irritating to deal with. The bugs were mostly fixed by reloading a previous save file and taking a different path or by doing different parts of the quest in another order.
About Fallout 3 we can write a lot - it is a very expanded game. We have big map, a lot of sceneries to explore, we have a great deal of freedom and many possibilities how to behave in the game. We can find many stuff nad discover many great locations. Fallout 3 is different than previous game from this franchise, different but very good. We can really feel the atmosphere of the wasteland, there are interesting side missions here. Main storyline is okay, but side quests are far better. Game has some disadvantages - for example stability (game like to crash sometimes), or graphics (especially look of the characters) is not so good. But it is still an excellent post-nuclear game!
Fallout 3 was the first Fallout game that I played and the first one that hooked me into the franchise. You're a guy (Or a girl), that just escaped from a place many would call home, escaped to the large and emptiness of the wasteland. You're a free to explore what's left of Washington DC and it's surrounding. People to meet, choices to make, bad guys to stop and a Dad to find. You're able to find weapons, gear, scrap and companions to aid you in your adventure in the wasteland. Some may complain about the emptiness and the brown and green color of the world, but I think it fits perfectly in the setting of the game and what it represents if a nuclear devastations take placer in the world. Definitely recommend this game for RPG veterans and newcomers too.
It has more in common with Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series than with previous Fallout games, but that is by no means a bad thing. In fact, Fallout 3 is leaner and meaner than Bethesda's previous efforts, less expansive but more intense, while still offering immense replay value and quite a few thrills along the way. Whether you're a newcomer to the universe or a Fallout devotee, untold hours of mutated secrets are lurking in the darkest corners of Washington. I highly recommend this game for those who like open world, and deep lore.
