Final Fantasy VII - FF goes cyber-punk!

This is the first game in the FF series that leaves the original fantasy world, and places you in a cyber-punk world. You still have the ability to cast spells, and use many unique and interesting weapons, but the feel of this game is very different from the FF games that came before. Some people love the new look of this game, whereas others prefer the older games. This game also takes the next step forward in graphics. If you are a FF old-timer, it's possible you might not like the way they changed the series, and the new look they've given it. On the other hand you might be one of those who absolutely love the change of direction that this game took the series. I guess there's only one way to find out - buy this game, and see for yourself if you like it better than the amazing games that came before it.

An all-time favourite

Ahh, my first RPG. I loved this game so much, I poured hundreds of hours into trying to find every secret there was and trying repeatedly to beat the hidden bosses, which I never succeeded at unfortunately. Perhaps my high rating has a little to do with nostalgia, but even replaying the game now I'm struck with the same feelings of fear and just general creeped-out-ness that this game used to give me when I was a kid. The story is great, the characters are great, the music is great, the combat system is great. It's aged really, really well too, aside from some of the character models. As for the port, I really have no complaints. It plays about as I remember it playing.

A great game, considered a masterpiece during it's time.

Final Fantasy VII is an amazing JRPG game that helped set the standards of many RPG's during it's time. It contains graphics which were amazing during it's release and contains a story that will pull you along for the ride as soon as you start it. It's battle system isn't perfect, but engaging with it's time/turn based system. You will find many moments when you will feel tense, happy, sad, and more. This port isn't perfect, and isn't doesn't do much to improve the experience many had from the PS1, but you get roughly the same experience regardless. There isn't much to say about it's soundtrack besides the fact that it's amazing. Overall, this is definitely a game you should play, especially if you are a fan of RPG/JRPG's.

Interesting story, Characters and mini-games

A great PS1 game that got a decent PC port. The story of This game is great and good paced, from the linear story of Midgar, to the world exploration to the climax fight between the heroes and Sephiroth... This game is filled with epic moments and shocking moments like a death of a certain character. All the characters, including the optional characters and some minor ones are interesting, There are many mini-games here and there.. who doesn't want chocobo racing? The only downside of this game is the graphic, the characters are low poly on outdated backgrounds, which was ok at the time of it's release on PS1 but isn't really good considering today's graphic.. I'm eagerly waiting for the HD remake!!

Best or just Great?

I have played many JRPGs, and many of them were Final Fantasy. This game is not the perfection the hardest of core fans proclaimed it to be, but it is oh so good. The Story is pretty good, but for an Otaku, predictable. The characters are good, especially Sephiroth (ignoring his boss battle). Combat is great, but too easy (ignoring the Weapons). The side quests are fun, but some feel pointless. Like the mansion. Why bother? You'll never use it enough to justify the cost of buying a mansion... or the optional characters. Most people don't use them, and it's not that simple to get them. Why bother? Nevertheless, I recommend that this be one of the first games for anybody wanting to play JRPGs.
