You thought that this battle for Krig-7b was just another brushfire war in the long standing dispute between Crawen Industries and Order of the New Dawn. But this time it would be different...
Your reputation as a brilliant military tactician and fearless leader has not gone unnoticed. Your employer, Craven Industries has chosen you to command an army of ground and air forces begin deployed to the distant world of Krig-7b. Victory is your only objective.

You like company of heroes? Well, here's the Sci-Fi version. No, not warhammer! :) In this game, your goal is to capture control points, which give you resources, from which you can order reinforcements. You need to use the terrain to your advantage, and make sure to outmanuever the enemy, before you run out of people and ground. Pretty simple huh? Well, it's easier to get into then a normal RTS, yet it can be pretty complex. It's usually a fun game, except when someone is using a turtle tactic, and somehow gains the upper hand. You can get into a situation, where it's clear you will lose...in a matter of hours....
Another RTS game I seem to have. But this is actually the only one I've played extensively. And that is because I don't have to worry about the tiresome resource management! ARGH! I hate that in RTS games! Hate it! Having to run around the map and the base and here and there and do research and always be in a hurry! NO! THAT IS NOT FUN IN MY DESCRIPTION! FORTUNATELY Ground Control is a different breed. In this game you can concentrate on the tactical department as the direction from which you attack the enemy matters, so flanking is actually a strategy here. Differences in how high you are positioned versus the enemy is also vital. You get units from dropships and you can easily set up your own groups from the troops. You cannot control a single troop, though, but that is not something you would miss, either. THIS IS GREAT RTS WITHOUT THE MICROMANAGEMENT! IF THAT DOES NOT GET YOU TO BUY THIS GAME; I DON'T KNOW WHAT WILL! Oh, yeah... IT IS ALSO VERY CHEAP FOR THE VALUE!
OK, the game is pretty old now, but it was among the first strategy games with 3d graphics. For a game more than 10 years old it still looks decent and I remember how impressive it was back in the days when it was a fresh release. Ground Control was different than most other RTS games of its time, as it didn't make you build bases or collect resources - it's all about combat, combined arms warfare and more combat. Although its replayability is limited by the fact that everytime you play the mission you can expect your enemy to come in similar waves and act in a similar way, but that's where the Dark Conspiracy expansion comes handy. It expands the game and makes it playtime longer. And it all comes for a ridiculously low price. I know it's not a new title, but still worth playing.
