Join the Dominions as they step up to the challenge of defending the motherland for King and Country in Together for Victory, the first major expansion for Hearts of Iron IV, the critically acclaimed strategy wargame from Paradox Development Studio. This expansion puts the focus on British Commonwealth nations, deepening the experience of playing these outposts of the English language.
Together for victory adds in more features that I expected in the base game, the new puppet system should be base content to allow some basic depth to having puppets. The focus trees are not exactly amazing and the Raj for example served a large role against the axis powers but is still not that important in most games. But most importantly I don't use most of these features often technology sharing is useless without joining one of the main factions, the autonomy system is used mostly late game, and asking for a lend lease has never worked for me. Overall 2/5.
The countries at the stage here are Canada, Australia, South Africa, India and New Zealand. Each one of them gets a new focus tree which either allows them to stay royal to their overlord, or become independent and pull their own weight in the world. It also gives the autonomy system - you can do things like trading with your overlord, helping in the wars and the optional if you're one of the countries - pick the independence focus trees. There are some stages you have to go through in order to become independent and it might take a while. Minor addons - spearhead battle plan, new voiceovers, models and modified lend-lease. Not worth the full price and some of the things shouldn't really be behind a pay wall, but it might as well be on sale.
I was expecting the first serious patch of this game to issue a rating and see if Paradox improved things after a launch that has let me down. The game had and still has serious problems in the artificial intelligence, has several missing things that seemed that it was a launch to clear.
The brilliant new focus trees, autonomy system is nice, spear head battle plan is essential and new models and voiceovers add bunch of immersion. Really like the DLC.
Together For Victory is the first expansion for Hearts of Iron IV, the most obvious thing it does is give new tech trees to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and The Raj and the autonomy system where you can attempt to gain independence with some nations. The new tech trees gives you something new but they might not be something everyone enjoys compared to previous options and while the ability to become independent is a good addition, there is a good chance that by the time you can do it you will already be pulled into a war. Some of the other additions are nice but should really have just been added for free as they just feel like fixes to the games base systems. It's a fairly expensive expansion for what mostly feels like a features with good and bad sides and features that should have already been in the game.
