This is a game in which we need to find out what our neighbor is hiding in his strange house. Playing as a little boy, we will have to investigate our neighbor's house and find out how to get into the secret cellar. Unfortunately, the flaws the game currently presents overwhelm its strengths by a longshot. Hello Neighbor is not ready for a full release - almost the same situation from a year ago. Since then, the game has gotten plenty of major and minor overhauls, but the key problems that were present back then remain. Every now and then you will come across glitches and bugs, like the neighbor getting stuck in the door, or bugging out and standing still doing nothing, or an object falling into infinity through the wall or the floor, or a distracting maneuver not working, and the list can go on ... The gameplay itself is far from ideal - the stealth component is clumsy and you will constantly feel on the side of the losing team, because your opponent is a fully grown intimidating man who always knows where you are (he can even sometimes see you through the walls), reaches you in two seconds, is not distracted by objects thrown to the side, sometimes hearing the noise you make and sometimes not. And you almost never know where he is and practically cannot resist him at all, only hide in a closet if there?s one nearby. In addition, the movements of both the neighbor and the player character feel clumsy and robotic. There are no tips, directions and other trivia that would make the game easier. The game system itself is unintuitive, I had to find a walkthrough to know where to go because the routes that the game requires are quite absurd. Still, there are plenty of Easter Eggs to find, so that?s nice, I guess. There are plenty of excessively long loading screens. Even the graphics settings are quite poor, with the game?s graphics being quite average, not using the full potential of the Unreal Engine (or even coming closee). To add to that, the music does not work well, sometimes cutting off suddenly. The excessive use of tension music every time the neighbor approaches us is one of the most irritating and annoying things in this game, taking away from the immersion instead of adding to it. Hello Neighbor certainly has the potential to become a good game, but it is not ready for release and I personally did not get any real enjoyment from playing it. Good idea, terrible execution.
More, that is the only word that comes to mind when playing this game. There could/should have been more implemented within the story as well as just in the game in general. The only difficulty that comes from the game is the fact that there wasn't any guidelines as to what you needed to do. It got to a point where I'd find myself doing absolutely nothing because I couldn't figure what was needed to be done. The Neighbor was very weird at time and didn't really act as imtimidating as expected. In the beginning ofcourse it was fun but the whole "AI learning" concept fell lacking in its ability to perform as intended. Specifically if, the house was bigger and instead of being awkward in its design had a more traditional house with many halls and rooms to hide in, we could have seen more of the AI taking control instead of the player I could keep going but I want people to try it and see it for themselves because the game is enjoyable and fun to play. The only problem IMO is that it's overall lacking.
Remember Aliens: Colonial Marines from Gearbox? What a disaster it was, with false advertisement so big, you could call the game a huge scam. Well, Hello Neighbor might not be as bad of a case like Aliens, mostly because it isn't advertised as huge AAA game, however that doesn't change the fact that developers lied pretty much about everything. While graphics and art direction are nice and it is hard to find anything bad about it, that's pretty much it and game fails in almost every field. Gameplay? Repetitive and pretty non-exsistent, and if you are having fun, the game quickly crashes or throws all the bugs it has at you, and there are a lot of those, many of them gamebreaking. You might ask what about the amazing AI that they advertised? Complete lie, even cinder block is smarter than that. It is really easy to exploit it, it doesn't learn anything, it is just there to chase you and fail hard at it. The one gimmick the game advertises, the AI evolving, is nowhere to be found here, folks. Overall, great art direction, good idea (although not a fresh one), but everything else is bad. I'm making a bet right now that developers will back out from that add approach and instead go with "octodad" or other game that is all about breaking it and try to reach all the streamers, because for now, it is pretty much streamer material. Just launch it and see where the game fails next.
Hello Neighbor is basically a first person puzzle horror game with stealth approach which managed to deliver almost everything it has been promised to the audience. the gameplay is mostly consists of puzzles and hide and seek mechanics and you should avoid detection by the AI neighbor in the game, in order to progress the story. the camera is first person and there's some bugs which sometimes makes you retry some mechanisms and traps which may seem frustrating and the enemy AI sometimes seems not so smart and it's really not a good thing and i really hope the developers fix them soon, but overall it's a fun, exciting and challenging experience which definitely can keep you entertain for a while. the visuals are great and with it's superb musics and sometimes silenced moments, help to create a perfect atmosphere for the game and multiply the excitement and sense of fear. the puzzles are not so difficult and most of times there's not only one way to solve them, which grants the game more replayability . Hello Neighbor is a great and entertaining game which definitely worth trying and if you are a fan of puzzle and investigative games with stealth approach , it would be a great experience for you.
