Irukandji is a fun score attack shooter, set in an abstract underwater trench. You fly your ship against the flow of hundreds of amazing procedurally animated sea monsters, blasting your way to the final showdown – a Giant Enemy Crab!
As you play, you unlock a variety of different ships each with its own unique weaponry and play style which offers a different way to play the game. There are also 10 challenging achievements to attempt, and online scores for each ship.

Irukandji is a score-attack-shooter that takes place in an underwater setting. Gameplay is similar to any Shoot 'em up you might have played: you control your ship trying to avoid enemies (of sea life variety: sea horses, jellyfish and a giant crab which is the level's boss) and their bullets, while getting power-ups and shooting back. The main objectives are to obtain a highscore and complete the (only) level. That's right, Irukandji has only one level, which can be completed in ~5 minutes. Replay value comes from unlocking new ships (which you can unlock by beating the level/game with the previous ship), getting a better score plus ten achievements. However, in my opinion, ship variety, online score and achievements aren't enough to compensate for the lack of more levels and enemy types, so the game gets repetitive even though each new ship is different than the others in play style. The visuals are good, colorful and sometimes mesmerizing - like wathcing fireworks. However, at times the graphics can be a little too hard on the eyes. Controls are simple, but mouse support is not implemented. If you have a gamepad though, you can use that. As a conclusion, Irukandji offers too little in terms of content. There's nothing inherently bad with its design or gameplay, but due to the lack of content, i can't really recommend it unless you are a hardcore score attack shooter fan and even then i don't feel like the price is justified.
It's currently keeping my intrest which is a difficult thing for game to do, but in the same way you try focus on fixing something thats annoying you. It's a fun game but aggrivating.
If you really like the genre of score shooters then it's a fun game that can obliterate hours of your precious time, if not, then it's a simple schmup with one level and not that many enemies and bullets as in some Japanese schmups. Graphics aren't that great but they do their job and somehow are just right for the game. Major downside of the game is the one level which is less then 5 minutes and if your'e not into unlocking all 6 ships and achievement and high score hunting there isn't that much replayability for the price of the game.
Although score attack shooters can be quite fun and addictive, this one certainly isn't. Although there are various kinds of ships to unlock, there are online ten achievements and there is only one "map". You have to get the highest score possible, and in the end you will have to defeat some kind of huge crab-like creature. Once you won, your score is posted on the online score board, and you can start all over again, hopefully for a better score. This game is fun, don't get me wrong here, but I feel like it's not worth the price, that's all.
