This version of the game has been expanded, rebalanced and overhauled to get rid of any and all free to play mechanics, so it is about one thing only: YOUR SKILL.
This game is NOT a remake of Jagged Alliance 2! We focus on detailed tactical combat (complete with stealth and weather conditions, recoil etc.), building up a base and your roster of mercs and operating them globally with well over 60 hours of campaign content and a unique PvP and Warzone mode to keep you busy. It has accessible yet deep tactical gameplay with RPG elements in the Jagged Alliance setting. If you like tactical RPGs you are going to enjoy it, but if you want a faithful copy of JA2, explore the other titles out there or go with the great JA mods that have been created by dedicated fans.
The game was originally controlled by an online publisher and not licensed to be released as pay to play title. We did not have full control over it, so we weren't allowed to make it the way we wanted to. Now we finally got the rights to it and get rid of all the free to play crap and mindless grind. It is a better game for it.
I must commend the developers for saving a sinking game from its F2P model. However, not enough was done to make it great. The single player campaign is essentially a bunch of contracts thrown together, exactly like the original game. The tutorial teased us with a hint of story, but afterwards, contracts are just there to get money and loot for the multiplayer part of the game. At the time of this review, the multiplayer match-making needs some work. It's a coin toss. You might end up with someone if your rank, against some unlucky new guy or some veteran player. Luckily or unluckily depending on how you look at it, the game play mechanics are new player friendly. Anyone can pick it up and play it. There's no learning curve if you have played any sort of turn-based strategy game. This will also leave fans of the genre disappointed. All the basics are there, cover, player stance, ammunition management, but there is no depth. Nevertheless, JA:OR is an okay squad TBS. It's got all the fundamentals, but not enough depth to keep players glued to their seat.
Jagged Alliance Online: Reloaded is what you can expect from a Hagged Alliance game, this time totally online. This is basically a redux version of the old Jagged Alliance Online, with new balance settings, new weapons, classes etc. It's very cheap and if you like this strategy franchise you should give it a try.
This is the newest game in the series. It is basically RPG and strategy game. The game's graphics are good and well made and the art style is good as well. The music can get boring but it is nicely made. The gameplay mainly focuses on multiplayer, which is very good. The game does not have much grind. The upgrade system is good to keep you progressing. The squad mechanism is also good. The tactical combat system is great and fresh, and feels intuitive. The menus are nicely made and user friendly. The game crashes some times and there are a few bugs that need to be ironed out. All in all, a game worth playing. 9/10.
