MagNets is made by Total Monkery, an independent family-run games studio in Devon, England. Collaborators on MagNets include Phil Corbett (Concept Art), award-winning musician Jamie Hamshere (Music and SFX) and Harry Holmwood (Music).
MagNets is a budget title so don't expect much from it. The easiest to categorize the game would be call it arena based game with simple problem solving, this however on some levels have a tower defence flavour to it. Game during the flow of time introducing new mechanics trying to keep it fresh though I got bored pretty quickly.
Take control of Park Ranger Faraday as you attempt to secure areas from rampaging Bloxbots. Every section takes place in an area where you will have to defend yourself and other objects while using your area based MagNets to disable your enemies, once defeated you must carry the parts to recycling unit that will give you fuses used to power different areas of the stage, the stage is complete when all fuses are in place. Some stages will give you different objectives such as defending band members instead of the usual objects. At the end of each stage you are given a score based on how many things you protected, your time, enemies defeated, and enemies recycled. You will also run into various stage hazards as you play and boss fights. As you play you are given new abilities such as dashing, jumping, and a stunning ground pound. New mechanics such as the ability to power up things in the environment with your MagNet also get introduced. It is a fun little action game with a good soundtrack that fits the game well. It is a good idea to play this game with a controller.
