QWOP: Story mode


Manual Samuel feels very similar to the viral game QWOP, and that is a good thing. In Manual Samuel, you play as Samuel, a man who has just come back to life and needs to live for twenty-four hours doing every body function manually, from walking to breathing. Most of the game?s comedy comes from you, the player, trying to make Samuel breathe, blink, walk, stand erect, and whatever else he needs to do, all of which is stuff game characters usually do automatically. However, the story is not very deep, but as with the gameplay it is very funny. Manual Samuel is a game that is genuinely funny that maintains this comedy from start to finish. It would be a shame that there aren?t more games like Manual Samuel, but if there were part of its charm would be lost.

100% amazing game! Features: - Nice adventure story, with a gameplay twist; - Great sense of humour, very enjoyable; - Controls are particular but a nice addition for this special game (try with a keyboard if you are sadistic!); - Deaths are awesome. The only complaint for the game would be that it's a little bit too short... but it doesn't matter while you can entirely enjoy what it offers.

How would life be if you had to do everything manually? If suddenly, you had to think about breathing and blinking? "Manual Samuel" uses this premise as the game's focus point. Play Samuel, a rich kid that did not have to anything to this point, suddently having to do everything manually after a deal with Death. Manual Samuel's focus point is that simple tasks being really difficult once you have to think about actions you unconciously do, and Manual Samuel runs with this idea. Each section is unique, bringing new tasks while advancing in this story. The humour is something, and is usually not what you often see anymore. The narrator accompanies you the whole way, providing most of the humour through their dialogue, especially when you skip cutscenes and at the end. However, it does not outshine the other characters in the game, as they each provide their own humour. The voice acting is surperb throughout, and only made the game better as you progressed. There is no failing in Manual Samuel, only not succeeding as the game will let you try again. To compensate for this, the enemies also heal while you recover so you can go through with trial and error instead of relying on being knocked down to progress. This is important as combat becomes important towards bosses, and as you move onto completing the time trials the game unlocks. While it is short, it is important to know that doing everything manually may become taxing on the player. The only negatives is that controls may not respond the first time (which can be annoying especially when trying to do time trials) and Sam's spine. Manual Samual does have local co-op, so you and someone else can take control of half of Sam's functions and try to work together. It is also recommended to play with a controller than with a keyboard. Overall, Manual Samual is a fun little game with great humour and voice acting.

A short and amusing game that can feel like a 2D version of Octodad


Manual Samuel is a linear adventure game, titled Manual because you are required to control each part of your character's body by pressing different keys or buttons on a controller. You will need to push buttons to move your arms and legs, to blink, to breath in and out, to straighten your spine, etc, somewhat like an easier to control 2D version of Octodad. The game succeeds more at being amusing than it does at being funny most of the time and is full of both audio and visual gags, more importantly the humor never really becomes cringe worthy (depending on how you feel about the Grim Reaper), overly offensive, or just outright embarrassing like a lot of games that focus on trying to be funny. Voice acting and narration is well done, the artstyle also fits with the humor of the game. The humor and the gameplay could get stale but the developers seem to know better than to make the game overstay it's welcome and it doesn't last long enough for boredom or frustration to set in. The games does control better if you have a controller, which is recommended by the game.
