I might be biased, cause Legend of Grimrock is really close to my hearth, and to be honest, I don't really like any Grid based dungeon crawler besides those 2 games, but when i tried this, i thought, well, if i will like any other game from this genre, it must be a biggest franchise there is. I was wrong. This game is not bad. Far from it. The visuals are kinda nice, though not timelessly beautiful as Grimrock, but nice. The combat system is the same as all similar games, and the world of Might and Magic is really good for any generic fantasy game. It wasn't even hard to start the game, and i played with it for a good 10 hours or so, before i quit for the last time, and never came back. It's hard to tell, why i dislike this one, because it has clearly more to offer...in size at least. You got shops, npcs, taverns, and all that, but somehow, whenever i played it, it felt like a chore. Maybe my problem is, it doesn't have the focus, of the Grimrock games. There, you had a clear mission, to escape. Here, you're just an independent contractor, who exterminates spiders, and rats, and carnivorous plants, and whatnot. Oh yeah, and the fact, that you can make a campfire anywhere is ludicrous. At one dungeon, i made like 4 in the same room.
Might and Magic X: Legacy delivers the all time iconic gridded turn style combat system all too familiar with the franchise. This mechanic may not appeal to the open-worldness that they've introduced in the game but where it falls short on this, it does well in its impeccable narrative and overall the fun 'true' RPG element from the Might and Magic series. The visuals may seem dated but for those seeking a nostalgia fix this is as great as an old-school dungeon crawler is going to get that does everything possible to punish you for your feeble human mistakes.
