Portal™ is a new single player game from Valve. Set in the mysterious Aperture Science Laboratories, Portal has been called one of the most innovative new games on the horizon and will offer gamers hours of unique gameplay.
The game is designed to change the way players approach, manipulate, and surmise the possibilities in a given environment; similar to how Half-Life® 2's Gravity Gun innovated new ways to leverage an object in any given situation.
Players must solve physical puzzles and challenges by opening portals to maneuvering objects, and themselves, through space.
This game has a gorgeous aesthetic. It looks amazing. Even after, what, 9 years? It holds up. The puzzles aren't that difficult in general, but they're certainly fun. The story is the real strength of this game. It's hilarious. If you know anything about puzzle games, you know about this one. It's worth it at any price.
I am not really keen on puzzle games but this is and exception. Portal is a game where you are given a device that allows you to create portals on flat and plain surfaces. If you make two portal and enter one you will exit another. That's the whole mechanics. You have to use physics of portals to reach your goal. My favourite thing is then you place one portal on wall and other on lower floor and you jump down to gain momentum and launch yourself ten meters away. I had lot of fun with Portal but it last only for two hours. However it has great replay value.
Portal is, I think, simply the best thing Valve has yet produced. It is overly short, but perfect in the time it offers. What it needs most is an utterly user-friendly, simple and easy puzzle level creator. With that, it would shine like a nova.
Portal is an interesting style of game, with FPS mechanics constructed into a puzzler. The game is a cult classic, with a huge fanbase being generated from its involved story. The game overall is a great buy, and if you live by the $1/hour rule, then you should not need to second guess.
Portal came out a long time ago. And even for todays game standards despite its age offers an innovative style of gameplay. This is a game that will run on almost any laptop or desktop launched in the past 4-5 years (assuming you have a decent processor). Portal 1 shows the potential of steam's engine (which is often associated with games like HL or CS). Portal has really great puzzles and and memorable characters. The story though short is unique. I would recommend you to go for this game in a bundle with portal 2(the sequel of portal 1). Portal 1 standalone is still a great game, but I'm pretty sure you'll crave of more levels after you finish portal 1 and portal 2 is the remedy for that.
