Portal™ is a new single player game from Valve. Set in the mysterious Aperture Science Laboratories, Portal has been called one of the most innovative new games on the horizon and will offer gamers hours of unique gameplay.

The game is designed to change the way players approach, manipulate, and surmise the possibilities in a given environment; similar to how Half-Life® 2's Gravity Gun innovated new ways to leverage an object in any given situation.

Players must solve physical puzzles and challenges by opening portals to maneuvering objects, and themselves, through space.

Portal

Portal is, I think, simply the best thing Valve has yet produced. It is overly short, but perfect in the time it offers. What it needs most is an utterly user-friendly, simple and easy puzzle level creator. With that, it would shine like a nova.

Short and Sweet

Portal is the best game of a generation. Brilliantly designed, blackly humorous, and not too long that it overstays its welcome. Sheer brilliance, Valve has done it again.

Best FPS Puzzler

Very innovative game of its time. I don't like puzzles, but I do like FPS, this solved the problem. I gave this a try, and when I mean try, that means coming up with impossible stunts to escape a science laboratory! I've only played through it once, and I've already understood to never give up, always aim for the cake. Striving only to get a piece of that cake, and I wasn't disappointed. The game handles very well on even the older machines with Core 2 Duo's, and low end graphics cards, typical of Valve games. What was missing is multiplayer, which Valve did in Portal 2.

An Original

Portal has many puzzles to solve starting from easy to extremely challenging logic puzzles. What I like about the game is the fact that there is a unique story line that incorporates logic, meaning everything makes sense and has real world capabilities. Once you've done playing portal you should play Portal 2 to fully understand where and when the story line occurs. Overall splendid game. BTW... The cake is a lie

Brilliant but short

The original Portal can be described in one word, primarily: innovative. The concept, in which you use a gun that creates portals to solve puzzles, is something that as far as I'm aware had never been done up until this point. The execution is near-flawless, coupling your trials with the demotivational chatter of an AI on the fritz, the game has an enormous charm and unique atmosphere. Now that Portal 2 is out I don't think I would recommend this game as strongly as I did before, simply because that game is a much more complete experience, but if you're looking for a short introduction to the world of Portal, this is a good choice.
