Riptale is a challenging 2D action roguelike aiming to make sword combat be as bloody and impactful as possible. The player collects gems that allow him to execute different attacks that have to be aimed manually. If the player hits an enemy there is a short slo-mo time during which the player can aim at another target. Successful hit rips the enemies apart leaving only blood and body parts flying on the screen. Killing enemies has never felt more rewarding.
The attacks are powered by arcane gems which make them powerful enough to bring down the ancient dragons threatening the world. Each gem takes a few moments to recharge, which means the attacks must be planned carefully lest they run out at the worst possible moment. Luckily if the player is able to connect with each attack all gems are immediately recharged allowing slicing and dicing to continue.
Killing enemies yields gold and chaining hits into multi-kills and combos yields extra gold. If the player can find a shop he can upgrade his gems into better ones and customise the attacks to fit his play style. There are gems that perform a triple attack, double-side attack and the infamous zig-zag-like saw attack. All this results in a symphony of combos that fill the screen with blood and guts. If Riptale was a board game it would shoot scissors at you.
In addition to killing enemies the player can complete challenges, explore libraries for game lore, find ancient runes that affect the gameplay in mysterious ways, defeat bosses and try to unlock pets and trinkets.

Riptale is original when it comes to presentation hack and slash platformer game, it's a good experience for casual players because of the game length and difficulty level but hardcore players will find something for themselves as well. I really like the presentation that reminds me of Amstrad games, it's rare to find something so simply beautiful these days.
Riptale is a difficult and enjoyable 2D action game. The game is a roguelike with randomly generated areas, each room has enemies that you can kill or try to avoid. Your character doesn't just swing his sword close to him but lunges at enemies to defeat them in one hit kills, the way you fight is by chaining attacks together attacks that are assigned to three gems. Once you perform an attack the first gem is gone and using them too fast will leave you without the ability to attack while they recharge, getting combos will have them quickly regenerate to keep your attacks going. You can spend currency from killed enemies to replace gems and sort them in the order you want to alter your style of attacks, you can also find different performance upgrades that may or may not help you or end up making things worse if you don't like the change made, such as causing even faster movement. The game has a good black and white artstyle and red blood that will cover the areas as you kill enemies, The only thing that you can keep after dying is unlock-able scarfs and animal companions. It can take some getting use to to control properly and the rooms themselves aren't that interesting but it's a fun game for a low price.
