RONIN is a combination of real time and turn based stealth game with some story elements taken from Kill Bill. You can walk and climb on walls but most of the game is spent leaping from place to place and using a grappling hook to swing or pull yourself to walls and ceilings. When enemies spot you they will aim their guns at you showing you a red line showing where their bullets come from, you are then only able to jump and can see how far you can cover on your turn before they fire, you will need to tackle your enemies to bring them down and then spend a turn killing them with your sword. As you finish levels you can earn skill points by completing bonus objectives allowing you to throw your sword, recall it, knock enemies down with shuriken, use a decoy, etc by earning time based points by killing and hitting enemies. There are good ideas behind the game but it ends up being short, the level design is linear and can often be finished easily if you get a stealth hanging ability, only three enemy types, repeated objectives, and there are occasionally problems where the UI that shows you where your jump will go but will be wrong. The special edition includes a comic and the game's soundtrack. The story of the game is pretty cliche and uninteresting and the music and sound is one of the low points of the game. If you want to support the developer and publisher you might want this but this version is not going to be worth it for most people.
This is a game just like Gunpoint. Many of its mechanics and play styles are inspired from Gunpoint. The graphics are nice and the music is great too, they make a nice atmosphere for the game. The story is lighhearted and well written. The action is cool and the puzzles never feel boring or repetitive. A good deal of strategy is required to clear a level. All in all, a great game that will surely be liked by fans of Gunpoint. This Digital Special Edition provides a comic that gives a lot more info on the story and the music which is worth listening to. 9/10, recommended.
