Sid Meier's Pirates! was originally released in 1987 with the Gold edition being released in 1994 with improved graphics and added content. Pirates is an open world game that has you controlling a privateer for the French, British, Dutch, or Spanish in the Caribbean. You are given the option to start in different time periods between 1560 and 1660 with the time effecting ships, who controls territory, and ship traffic. Random factors in the game can change the relationships of the different nations as well as the in game cities. You can take missions, fight other ships, fence against enemy captains, and lead a crew to take over enemy strongholds. A great game even after all these years.
This is definitely the best pirate game out there. For a game that came out in the 80's, this is AMAZING. I have very few criticisms for this game, one of them being the graphics; they are very outdated. This is also a very small game. I wish that there were more content. All of that aside there is no shortage of reasons not to buy this game. It has some of the greatest, most unique, and original gameplay that I've ever seen in my whole life. This is also a cheap game to purchase. When you consider how rewarding it is when you finish this game it's definitely worth buying.
