Game description

Discover what it takes to become one of the most famous pirates in history! Based on Sid Meier’s original masterpiece, Pirates! invites you to live the life of a 17th-century Buccaneer in this epic, open-ended seafaring adventure.

Test your skills as a privateer flying the Jolly Roger across the Caribbean. Duel enemy captains, exchange plank-shattering broadsides and seize valuable booty, woo fair maidens, dig up buried treasure, and of course plunder unsuspecting ports. As your reputation and skills grow, so will the size and quality of your crew, and your ability to take on larger enemy ships, raid heavily fortified ports, and locate ancient treasure. There's a whole cast of interesting and dangerous characters to meet, mysteries to solve, and exotic island destinations to discover.

It’s a game of high adventure, where brave and skilled players battle for treasure and glory. Those who succeed achieve great fame and wealth – and those who fail rest forever in Davy Jones’ locker!

Now Underrated!

I remember back when this came out in 2004, it was talked about all the time! Everybody was playing it. Now, over a decade later, I haven't heard anybody talk about this great game in awhile, which is pretty sad. Sid Meier's Pirates is remake of the original from the 80s. This version has full 3d graphics (which still look good by the way) and interesting gameplay. You pretty much make you own pirate and sail away looking for gold and new ships. Ship combat is fast and fun, and going to the different islands/towns is interesting. Probably the only flaw to this game is the dueling part, but it isn't that bad. If you want to try something different, Sid Meier's Pirates is a great place to start.

Very disappointed.

Sid Meier's Pirates is a failed attempt by the producer to make a game with ambiance at sea and you must control pirates. The controls are extremely difficult to control as well as control the character you should also control the ship, which causes you to die very early. The graphics are certainly one of the worst in the series looking like it was done for many years. The sea is practically stopped and the movement of the waves is very bad. The game has almost no soundtrack, just a few songs that are being repeated and quite irritate the player. For those who are fans of the series I do not recommend buying the game that will certainly be very disappointed.
