Not Super Mario Kart

Sonic & All-Stars Racing tries to be Super Mario Kart. It isn’t, but that doesn’t stop it from trying. Like Super Mario Kart, Sonic & All-Stars Racing lets you play as one of various Sega characters and race other Sega characters in numerous levels inspired by different Sega games. Like Super Mario Kart, you can pick up various items that will help you win the race. While the controls are solid and the levels varied, the game feels more like a cheap knock-off than anything else. The items that you pick up in the game are generic and do not make you feel like you are playing Super Mario Kart with Sega characters. Racers do not have any weight to them and you cannot use the tactic of “a heavy character bumping into a lighter character to knock them out of the way”. The most excitement you will probably get out of the game is using your character’s unique power as they are indeed fun and impressive, but you will not get them unless you are losing the race. Sonic & All-Stars Racing is not Super Mario Kart. Everything the game does sadly screams "We want to be like Super Mario Kart!" Sonic & All-Stars Racing is a good replacement if you do not have a Nintendo console, but if you do, then you are better off buying Super Mario Kart.

Fantastic Racing Game

Sega brings their take of Mario Kart to the PC and if I am honest... I love it. They have taken some of the good things about Mario Kart and have given it some extras goodies to keep any racing fan happy. There is a healthly selection of characters right at the start, with more to be unlocked as you progress through the World Tour mode. Which can be seen as a challenge mode but it is a perfect time waster as you look to get an 'S' rank on all of the challenges. Which are also varied so you won't be bored anytime soon. The races themselves are nice and varied. With plenty of areas from Sega's past to keep any fan of them happy. The graphics are spot on for the game and the music is just superb. And the difficulty of the CPU is perfect so it will give you a challenge. It is one of those games you can pick up and time will just fly by and you won't notice, nor will you actually care

Quite entertaining

This is just an all around fun game. While geared more towards family entertainment an individual can enjoy this as well. The tracks are a blast as well as the overall gameplay. Racing controls and mechanics are spot on also. Reminds me of the old days of N64 when games were just a blast to play. The whole family will love it. Especially happy to see split screen on the pc. So many games lack split screen support on the PC while this retains it. People just don't realize that lots of gamers have there PCs hooked up to actual HD TVs with this new invention called an HDMI cable. PCs also have the ability to use 360 controllers, and PS3 controllers, and tons of other gamepads, both wireless and wired. I appreciate developers retaining all aspects of gameplay in the PC versions of their games.

Gotta' Go Fast!

I originally anticipated this title to be a Mario Kart clone, cash-cow attempt from Sega, but the game is different enough to merit its own unique praises and is a lot of fun to play by yourself or with friends; however, the multiplayer game modes are a little lacking. The character choices and vehicles are pretty diverse, most of the courses are visually interesting, and the item pick-ups are pretty outside of the box ideas. It is a challenging game, but it doesn't feel as cheap as Mario Kart in certain ways, such as the same computer racer doesn't seem to come in 1st every single racing with overcompensation in speed and item pick-ups... If you like racing games, and you're looking for something different, I'd definitely check it out.

Great Mario Kart on PC.

Sonic all star racing is definitely the only mario kart like which worth be playing. Graphics are really nice and colorful, sound track is great as there are many themes from old game such as afterburner, panzer dragoon and many old games. Powerups are quite different from Mario Kart which is a great thing after all. The transformation thing is fun but not that important in fact. If you are looking for an arcade kart game on pc, go for it, the game is cheap and really nice to play.
