Pros: +Zombies +Open world +Survival Cons: -Lackluster graphics -Clunky driving -Lack of conflict with other survivors State of Decay is a fun zombie survival game that reaches back to the beginnings of the zombie craze. It offers plenty to do in a small, yet well-planned, open world setting. You can equip your survivors with a variety of weapons and gear as your scour the zombie-ravaged landscape for supplies and other survivors. For everything that SofD does right, it does have some problems. First, the graphics are nothing special; not bad, just not great. Second, the driving mechanics sometimes feel a bit off, and you can sometimes drive faster than the game-world loads, creating some potentially dangerous situations for your survivors as you plow into invisible wrecked vehicles or debris. Other than the graphics and driving, the only other complaint I have is the shallow interactions you can have with other groups of survivors. What I wanted was a zombie game where humans are just as, if not more, dangerous than the zombies. Disappointingly, your interactions with other survivors are simply to help or not help them when they ask for it. As you gain their trust, they will trade with you and eventually request to join you. That's it. No shootouts over food and fuel. You don't get to raid other survivors, and you won't be raided by other survivors. The focus is on the zombies, which is fine.
Although the zombie genre is becoming over-saturated at the moment, State of Decay is fairly refreshing, in that it feels like a stripped-down zombified GTA. You can go to loads of places and control the flow of the story to a far greater extent than in games like The Walking Dead for example. Gameplay is standard but not awkward or too clunky, while the graphics are clean but lack the polish of AAA titles. Overall, the main game provides enough entertainment for many hours. For me personally, the extra DLC is not worth it, co-op would have been a more meaningful addition to the main game, but all in all this is a great package, simply because the State of Decay on its own is so fun.
One of the worst port I ever played. The render quality is really bad, the black are really crushed. All is really black. There are some mods thats try to fix it but is still awful. I dont recommend this game, is very frustrated but the kind of bugs and glitches. Menus are not even ported properly to another resolution than 1280x720. If i could i requested a refund.
State of decay balances incredibly fun and expansive gameplay with a genuine, scary and challenging experience. Theres a lot of tactics involved, but its also quite easy to pick up and enjoy; you really get a sense of being master of your own fate and involved in a desperate and realistic situation, having to find resources, protect survivors and build up your bases for safety. Well worth picking up, its fantastic!
