Victoria McPherson, is a brilliant young FBI agent who’s investigating a serial murder case. The body count is now at five and with the lack of real leads and a mountain of circumstantial evidence, Victoria is beginning to show signs of fatigue and stress. She decides to take a break and go rest at her father’s home in suburban Chicago; after all, it is close to the Christmas holidays. However, Victoria does not find rest. Instead, she finds one of her grandfather’s old case files and begins to read. Oddly enough, Victoria’s present case resembles the one from the past, right down to the killer’s MO…
Compelling storyline set in modern Chicago and Prague in the late 20s
Rich and intriguing characters
Crime scenes investigations of gruesome serial homicides
Challenging puzzles finely integrated into the storyline
Beautifully detailed environments
Still Life is an adventure game that has you switching between the control of a modern day (at release) FBI agent, Victoria, and her Grandfather, Gustav, a private detective in the 20s who both seem to be dealing with the same murderer. More time is spent with Gustav, which I consider to be a good thing as I found the characters more interesting in his story, he seems closer to the case for the majority of the story giving you more investment in what happens to him, and I found the atmosphere in his parts of the story to be better. The game itself is pretty short, puzzles are typical of the genre with nothing really standing out as great or really bad, mostly just the usual collect objects to use with objects, the visuals were dated even for its time, and until you near the end the sections with Victoria just aren't as interesting. Those problems aside the game still tells an entertaining story with a good atmosphere and is worth trying for fans of the genre.
