Honestly a really fun little collection. Has prototypes for games I had never heard of and some big names like 'super meat boy' from the indie game world. Great game for people who want a little more insight on Edmund. Be aware of the HORRENDOUS performance, though.
I've been following Edmund's work since about 2004, his games just clicked with me on a personal level. This collection/rework was very welcome because of that. None of the presented titles are perfect, but that's part of what makes them so human, so relatable. If you're not as attached to the creator, you will probably still enjoy most of them (especially the more gameplay-driven Meat Boy and Time Fcuk). The added music tracks and features are a nice touch, as well as the dev commentary and extra content. I recommend this title wholeheartedly.
Eight beautifully designed games by the one and only Edmund McMillen, what could you possibly want more of? As an added bonus, this pack includes the original super meat boy. I guarantee you'll spend countless hours in the wondrous mind and worlds created before your very eyes trying to unlock all the games and developmental bonus content. The creatively and uniqueness among these games will have you craving for more. The good news is that there are equally as encapsulating games not included in this collection, but that should not deter you from grabbing the Basement to your collection of games.
This is a pretty damn fun collection of games. They're all pretty simplistic, but they deliver greatly on the gameplay side. What I really like about these games is the art. It's extremely minimalist, but it has a charm to it that makes all the games very entertaining and fascinating to look at.
McMillen's games are lovingly collected into one neat package for all to enjoy. I actually love this collection because I can appreciate looking back at a person's past works and seeing the kind of development they've had over the years. The games themselves are filled with much fun, offering varied gameplay. Some might dismiss them as just Flash games, but there are a good handful of them, and the bonus content also makes up for a lot. With all these games, one can really see the influences and elements of gameplay McMillen brought over to his later games, The Binding of Isaac and the ever famous Super Meat Boy.
