You are Detective Sebastian Castellanos and at your lowest point. But when given a chance to save your daughter, you must enter a world filled with nightmares and discover the dark origins of a once-idyllic town to bring her back. Horrifying threats emerge from every corner as the world twists and warps around you. Will you face adversity head on with weapons and traps, or sneak through the shadows to survive?
Detective Sebastian Castellanos has lost everything, including his daughter, Lily. To save her, he is forced to partner with Mobius, the shadowy organization responsible for the destruction of Sebastian’s former life. For his last chance at redemption, the only way out is in.
• STORY OF REDEMPTION. Sebastian must descend into the nightmare to win back his life and family.
• DISCOVER HORRIFYING DOMAINS. Explore as far or quickly as you dare through a world where nothing is quite what it seems, though be sure to prepare wisely.
• CHOOSE HOW TO SURVIVE. Attack from the shadows with the crossbow, run like hell, or go in guns blazing with very limited ammo.
• FACE DISTRUBING ENEMIES. Survive encounters with sadistic enemies and meet characters who may lead – or mislead – you on your path to redemption.
• VISCERAL HORROR AND SUSPENSE. Enter a twisted world filled with anxiety-inducing thrills and disturbing horrors around every corner.
Personally, I found the first Evil Within to be a first class game. The world immediately captivated me. So I naturally had huge expectations for its sequel. Some things have been improved, such as the upgrade system, there are no annoying stops when your character runs out of stamina. The controls are much more responsive this time around, everything is easy to handle, the impressive atmosphere is punctuated by a great soundtrack, which fits great with the game's theme and the game has an intriguing story that is cohesive to the very end. There are beautiful new designs for the normal enemies and bosses, though there are a bit too few bosses for my taste. The weapons also harmonize well. And technically I had no crashes and no noticeable bugs. The textures sometimes vary from good to mushy. But overall, you can't complain much. Finally, compared to its prequel, The Evil Within 2 is a bigger game that works well on release, with few to no patches required to fix it. The game's length is just right. Especially because there is a lot to collect and find, as well as a few side missions. A must buy for anyone looking for an unforgettable gameplay experience!
The Evil Within 2 improves on the first game. It has a strong first half with better exploration, stealth, horror elements and use of STEM. A good first antagonist with a great time slow visual and gameplay mechanic. It starts to fall apart towards the end with cliche bad cutscenes moments, new antagonist who isn't interesting, annoying enemies, and obvious character deaths. Never really makes you care about your daughter or wife who start to have a larger role towards the end. Like the first game the camera is still terrible and the game forces your vision to places in a way that will often get you hit or killed during certain scenes and fights, though they have at least removed the letterbox screen mode.
The Evil Within 2 is undoubtedly one of the best horror games of 2017 and it really managed to deliver almost everything the developers promised to the fans! Such a great story and amazing visuals along with intense and fascinating gameplay and also lots of challenges and collectibles in the game makes it a perfect choice for all fans of horror games. I really hope this time it become a GOTY and I really think it will :) I really can't recommend this game enough and if you played the first game and wanna delve more into Sebastian world and see if he can finally find redemption and save his beloved daughter, The Evil Within 2 is my best offer for you! and don't worry if you haven't played the first game since it's not really so much related to the first games story wise, and I fact it has it's own rich and amazing narrative which keeps you on the edge of your sits for hours! Prepare yourself for a true horror game!
To a degree, the sequel is way better than the original. Original was, more or less, hide-and-seek kind of game, incredibly buggy and with huge issues on launch. There are some engine hiccups here and there (because it is butchered idtech 5 engine, which itself is bad), but it is not as bad as in the first game (although that might be up to luch, just like Dishonroed 2). Graphics and sound are nice, but gameplay got some tweaks and it is better than the first in my opinion, mostly because instead of playing boring chase game (because resources were sparse, and shooting was meh), here shootouts are much better played out, mostly because of much bigger maps. Stealth is also better and not as tanky as in the first game. Also, it is not unbalanced and hard as the first game, so no more tearing your hair out in overall easy game, with some real frustration walls. The only thing bad here, really, are story, characters and backtracking. Story is meh and nothing original and character is cookie-cutter - you won't feel anything for him or anyone in this game, you will enjoy slaying or staying in shadows much more. Backtracking is bigger issue, because in games like this it is always a killer for pace of the game, but also lazy cup-out. Overall, sequel is better in almost every way. If you have additional -25%, go for it before it expires, if not, then wait for a sale, because in my opinion it is not worth rushing out, especially since there are other great games coming in upcoming days (unless you have spare money for it, then don't even think about it and just go get it).
