"The game looks pretty good, with some well-rendered character models and some great looking kills [...] The game has plenty to do, from taking on side missions to a meaty main quest." - IGN.com

I try to always be honest, so while me and 2 of my friends did have fun playing this game, I also have to admit, that we were quite tired, so we found the big talking eagle hilarious. Now, this doesn't sound reat, but bear with me. War in the north is not a bad game. It runs smoothly, it's free of bugs, and it's a generally nice looking game. The Lore is rich, unsurprisingly, and the characters are okay, if pretty basic(i felt like playing golden axe pretty much). It's not bad, but it doesn't really add anything new either. It's enjoyable enough, yet if you play it for too long, you'll feel like manual labor at the orc slaying factory. The difficulty is also reminiscent of golden axe. It seems easy at first, and though as fast as there, here you will get killed soon enough if you don't take the uglies seriously. Teamwork is actually needed at places. So, for a weekend of orc hunting, a soolid LOTR game.
If you like the universe of the Lord of the Rings, then surely the War of the North will not disappoint you. Although the game is a slasher, it contains quite an interesting story, of course, it is just an excuse to kill more enemies hordes, but anyway it is more than the other games of this genre. As soon as someone has the opportunity to cheaply snatch this game I highly recommend it because it is worth to play.
While the graphics are average at best, music is ok, but unmemorable and on keyboard controls feel stiff, especially with awkward camera work, the game is not that bad and it has potential. Gameplay is incredibly basic and there is nothing mindblowing about it - you just go from beginning to end and slay enemies with magic, swords or bow and arrows in good old third person perspective. Playing alone, this game can get incredibly boring and old fast, especially since story is incredibly basic and is only the reason to get things going like in Shadow of Mordor. Bots and their AI (because this game is team based) can get on your nerves and make the game bad, however thankfuly you can play splitscreen with other person or with people over internet - it's more fun this way. If you want your online Lord of the Rings fix or have people willing to play it with you, it is strongly recommended, since games like this are always fun with friends. When playing alone, it's average at best.
As much, as it would be awesome, to play an fps, shooting medieval weapon wielding orcs, this game is a simple action game, where you...slaughter orcs with arrows,, swords and magic. Apparently the book mentions the story of this game, but i can't recall it, and anyway, that is a side story at best, and here it feels like it. Nono of the characters here are terribly interesting, and even the battles are boring, and uninspired. At one point, u actually have to use a ballista, like a stationary machine gun, to kill lots of invading orcs. For a group of 3 LOTR fans, this could be awesome maybe...for anyone else, i don't see this as fun.
I had really high expectations of this game from the word go, and I was slightly disappointed in all honesty. I love the characters and the story between them, but I was slightly dissatisfied at the story and gameplay. I definitely recommend giving it a bash if you a fan of LOTR as there is plenty of gameplay available and you can also do it in co-op mode which makes for replay value. I just wish there was more RPG elements to it, I found that they played it safe and just had basic RPG features in, presumably to keep the younger audience happy and not confuse things. I did come across a few bugs during my game time, not sure if these have been patched by now, but I know some people are still finding bugs. All in all, definitely worth a buy if LOTR is your thing, if not maybe worth a purchase in the Steam sale or something as it's always going quite cheap when there's a sale on.
