Neither Good Nor Bad

I'm really on the Fence to give this Game a Positive Thumbs Up, as there are some great qualities to it, but at the same time it also has a lot of Negatives to it... and some are substantial. However, I'd never give it a Negative Review, because I have enjoyed it, and still do on occassion despite my issues I experience. Train Simulator 20xx is without a doubt, the most successful Train Sim out there currently, which is mainly due to the large amount of Content available which gives Players a wide variety to build up their own Collection. For a old Game Engine, it can look really good, most Models are done well, and a lot of the new Content has stunning visuals. The sounds are 'meh' for a lot of the Content, but they have improved slightly on occassion. It is definitely not a Game for everyone, and mostly appeals to Train Fanatics, or Sim Fanatics [like myself]. The hours can be endless depending on said person. As the Steam Store has a lot of DLC created by 3rd Party Developers, I am excluding them completely out of this Review. The DLC created by DoveTail Games can have a YoYo effect when it comes to Quality on their DLC. For an example: - Loco 'A' released in November will have Great Modelling, nice and Crisp Textures, and a wide variety of Features. - Loco 'B' released in December will have Blocky Modelling, Blurry Textures, and a lack of Features. I'm sure this is due to a different Team working on different Content, but there should be Standards to live up to, especially when they are sold at the same Price. Although it is called a "Simulator", it leans more towards a Game. The Features it offers are very Basic, and most of the Switches and Monitors are just there for show [there are some exceptions though]. So if you are looking for a indepth, and highly Realistic experience, then keep looking, or alternatively learn to play without the HUD, and ask about External 3rd Party Content which produce Realistic Loco's [though the Variety is low]. Despite how enjoyable it can be, the Game has many issues. I'm only going to name a few, because I'm not into "Bashing" a Game I enjoy [that's what Forums are for]. Such as Features not working Correctly [or at all], Scenario's which cannot be completed due to AI crashing, Dump File errors, and Signals not Functioning correctly. I would say if you want to invest in this Game, then it is essential to do Research before any purchases, and do a lot of Reading on the Forums, and never be afraid to ask any Questions there, even ones you might think are silly. Genre - Simulator Game Elements - Commuter Train Operator - Freight Train Operator - Shunter Train Operator - Train Spotter Average Playthrough - Unlimited Liked - Supports TrackIR - Wide Variety of Content - Good Visuals for an Old Engine - Good Models and Textures - Some interesting Features - Helpful Community Disliked - Broken Content - Lack of Bug Fixing - Moderate Sounds - Lack of Advanced Features - Quality YoYo's too much
