Fight through countless enemies and massive bosses in this indie shoot-'em-up! Use the unique teleportation mechanic to dodge enemy fire, then counter with an arsenal of powerful weapons. Valkyrius Prime features all new character art and story, plus many more improvements over the original, including refined level design and improved graphics.
In addition to the exciting action that only an arcade style "shmup" can bring, Valkyrius Prime features:
- 5 difficulties for casual and hardcore gamers alike
- 6 stages and boss rush mode
- Online high score tables
- 2 player co-op (at least one gamepad required for second player)
- Gamepad support
Not the typical JPN bullet hell but extremely creative, fast paced, and challenging Vakyrius Prime manages to create just the right feel. Nice enemy variety and pacing plus a credits system allows module unlocks to enhance the gameplay in later playthroughs. Ship dodging system on the horizontal plane is wicked and the slight aiming deviance when turning the ship gives a slight feeling of Roche Fusion. Great game and definitely worth the asking price.
Valkyrius Prime is a vertical shooter with the gameplay primarily revolving around use of your ships ability to teleport short distances left, right, up, or down. This will mean that you will frequently be in battles where you can't just dodge a shot or avoid them until they stop like in most shooters, but instead have to time your short jump to the side to avoid getting hit. Usually you will use it to avoid constant beam weapons being fired at you but will have to be careful that you don't show up in a spot that will get you hit by regular smaller bullets. In addition to enemy ships and bosses their might be stage hazards, such as attacks coming from walls or emplacements as your ship maneuvers down through a tunnel. You can make use of different weapon upgrades such as a slower shot that covers a wider area, lasers that spray from the left to right and back, a beam that can rotate around your ship, etc as well as more passive ones such as activating a bomb when you are destroyed. You can slightly customize your ship by choosing from different exhaust colors. The game looks good and the music fits well. There are some more unique parts of the game such as needing to shield yourself behind a larger ship to avoid being destroyed, limiting your movement range, while it still shoots at you. It's a good game made even better by the low price.
