"Zeno Clash sticks with you long after you play it, and that's a compliment many games aspire to have associated with them." - IGN.com
"most battles give you a bit of a rush and are enjoyable to play, particularly the unique boss battles" - Destructoid.com
Zeno Clash is an action/fighting game set in a punk fantasy world. The game is played from a first person perspective and the combat is generally up close and brutal.
Experience a deep storyline set in a fantastic world. Play the role of Ghat, a man banished by his own brothers and forced to begin a desperate journey past the forbidden desert and to the end of the world.
Nominated in 'Excellence in Visual Art' at the Independent Games Festival, the original visuals, which make full use of the Source engine features, breathe new air in the fantasy game genre. The new close combat mechanics are also a deviation from traditional action in the first-person genre that will feel fresh for new and veteran players.
Engaging melee combat in first person
The new melee combat system allows players to perform a variety of movements like deflect & elude combos, knockback finisher punches and punishing grab attacks. Learn new attacks as the game progresses and confronts you with more formidable foes.
Fantastic visuals powered by the Source engine
Players will be immersed in a fantastic world, beautiful and disturbing at the same time. The unprecedented art style brings a fresh new approach to the first person genre. The surreal environments and characters will keep players wanting to discover more.
Survival mode challenges
Jump right into the action in engaging unlockable "tower challenges". The player must overcome enemy waves to progress through the tower levels. The game will rate the player in different categories like speed and performance. A leaderboards system will rank you against your friends, so the challenge never ends.
Players will play the role of Ghat; the son of a impressive hermaphrodite creature called Father-Mother, whose children form the most powerful clan in the city of Halstedom. Ghat must escape from his family and start an incredible journey with his female companion Deadra, who will aid him in the dangerous lands of Zenozoik.
The game features an unusual arsenal of eccentric weapons that are built from scraps and junk. Hammers and clubs will be the most effective when fighting heavy characters that can only be brought down with extreme force.
The Zeno Clash Model Pack for Garry's Mod
The pack includes 70 models with the characters and creatures to be used with the popular Source engine mod Garry's Mod. "This is a great addition to the existing library of assets and we really hope the fans will enjoy the content and start developing their own Zeno Clash inspired videos, screens or machinima." says Andres Bordeu from ACE Team. Zeno Clash owners can download the free DLC from the Tools tab in their Steam client.
Despite being made with the popular Source engine, Zeno Clash is, like many reviewers pointed out, a one of a kind game. Set in the strange and unwelcoming world of Zenozoik (imagine the Star Wars locales with eastern influences), the game follows the story of a man named Ghat rebelling against his numerous family of mostly anthropomorphic creatures (his brothers and sisters, as well as his mother and father - the same person and weirdest of them all). Although not particularly excelling in any areas other than the gameplay and perhaps the design of the locations, Zeno Clash has plenty of good graphics, fitting music and interesting story. While not very lengthy even when considering the challenges and achievements, it's definitely a game worth owning!
Zeno Clash... An indie, underestimated game, yet, an impressive effort from ACE Team! I would describe Zeno Clash like this: You're a human living a weird world, where you kill monsters and bad guys. A strange world, killing weird monsters, meeting weird people, and using weird guns, but there's more about it! It's a unique idea of a game, a unique world! A really noteworthy part of the game, is the brawling/fighting system it has. It's really really good and it feels like you're playing boxing. And yes, it's a First-Person game! It's my favourite feature of Zeno Clash. No worries though, there's an arsenal of guns too, and it's OK. You will get used to the guns it has. Not really a lengthy campaign, less than 10 hours, but it's worth a try! It's a quite nice adventure you will have while playing Zeno Clash. Not every game might everyone's cup of tea, but more people should check out Zeno Clash, it's underestimated. Now, would I recommend it? Sure. It's on sale? Then, I would suggest it's a good chance to get the game in case you think of purchasing it.
Man, when I first played this game, everything freaked me out. It still does, but not as much. You need to get some getting used to. The game takes place in a Punk Fantasy setting, that means don't expect Elves or Magic like you would from normal Tolkien Fantasy genre games. No, this game takes place in the world of Zenozoik, a weird freaky place with anthropomorphic creatures and fantastic devices. The world is colourful and disturbing and full of wonder. The gameplay involves melee combat and the occasional weapon usage in the form of a melee weapon; like a bone or a stick, or a ranged weapon. It uses a fluid form of melee combat system, it does take some getting used to however, but once you get the hang of it, it's gets good. The story is like the setting it's part of, it too is weird. You play as Ghat, you have run away from your large family, and now your parent (a single creature who is both your mother and also your father at the same time) sends your siblings to hunt you down to cover up a truth that you've discovered. Overall, I'd recommend this game if you can have an open mind when you get into it.
Zeno Clash focuses on a first person Punch-out simulator, giving you the basics of any fighting game (Unarmed + some armed combat), in a well-imagined wasteland world, full of different races (there's even a bird race). Melee attacks has some variety, from various punches and kicks, to grab combos and throws. Ranged weaponry is a big plus, with well-designed ranged weapons that represents dual pistols, shotguns and grenades, which match the environment extremely well. There is no leveling, no experience to worry about, so if you don't want to waste time fighting, you can just run past all the enemies to get to the next stage, which might become necessary when enemies re-spawn in locations that you've left. Expect to be outnumbered every time, sometimes even going against three enemies. And that leads to the combat. Take every advantage you get, because you won't have much. Weapons don't have limited ammo, so spam with impunity. Remember to keep moving to ensure that you do not get flanked, or to ensure that you can focus on one target only. The environment is can always help, such as throwing/kicking enemies off ledges to kill/buy time. The graphics are decent enough, giving you the alien-environment feel which is sharp enough that you might start staring and trying to decipher what exactly are you looking at. A decent game for people who are looking for a first person brawling game, with a good price set to it.
I was a bit surprised by this game, I thought it would be good but no more but actually it's a great game. The universe is unique, the fights are simple but good. The gameplay and the characters are what it makes the game funny. The only default is the time to finish the game, you should count about 4 hours to end it but you can make others challenge to increase the lifetime of the game.
