They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but that’s not always a good thing.
Recently it came to our attention that someone had set up a website that was pretending to be us. How flattering! Except it was a scam, it was set up to look like us, sound like us, and trick gamers into using it.
Enter our community. They raised the alarm by asking whether the new site was legitimate, and this activated our legal ninjas. We then immediately contacted the appropriate authorities to make sure this impostor was shut down and prosecuted quickly.
We are extremely grateful to everyone who informed us that this site had appeared and to those who went the extra mile in ensuring the word was spread. As gamers we’re only as strong as our weakest link, and the Green Man Gaming community has proved without doubt that they’re among the strongest.
The moral of this story is not ‘big business takes on a scammer and wins’, it’s that the gaming community, our customers, were able to work with us to shut down someone who was out to rip you off. It’s your actions that got a result. You got it shut down.
