The hotly anticipated sequel to the terrifying Little Nightmares from Tarsier Studios, the unsurprisingly named Little Nightmares 2 looks set to up the ante on its predecessor in a number of ways. Boasting more than just improved visuals and all new, creepy locations for folks to lose their minds (and lives) in, Little Nightmares 2 (reviewed here!) also introduces a new character, Mono, who joins Six, the main protagonist from the first game. With the inclusion of a second character, many gamers have been asking whether or not Little Nightmares 2 supports co-op play in either or both local and multiplayer settings. Naturally, we have the answer for you right here.
Does Little Nightmares 2 Have Local Co Op Multiplayer?
Given that Little Nightmares 2 boasts two characters that can potentially share the screen, it seems like the perfect place for players to engage in some local co-op multiplayer shenanigans but alas, Little Nightmares 2 does not currently support local co-op multiplayer. Of course, there’s always a chance, albeit slim, that local co-op multiplayer support for Little Nightmares 2 could arrive further down the line in a patch or update. If such functionality did arrive post release, it could work in a similar way to how EA’s co-op adventure A Way Out handles local co-op play; splitting the screen in half and allowing players to wander in and out of each other’s perspective while the camera follows them as they separate from one another.
Does Little Nightmares 2 Have Online Co Op Multiplayer?
Ok, so we know that Little Nightmares 2 doesn’t support local multiplayer, but does Tarsier Studios horror sequel support online co-op multiplayer? Additionally, given that Little Nightmares is releasing on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch, will cross-platform multiplayer also be supported? Once more I’m forced to be the bearer of bad news, as Little Nightmares 2 doesn’t currently support online co-op multiplayer, let alone anything akin to cross-platform multiplayer functionality. Again, unless something radically changes and the developer decides to patch this in later, Little Nightmares 2 will remain a superb, but strictly solo horror adventure.
Little Nightmares 2 Co Op – What Does The Developer Say?
Frequently quizzed about whether or not Little Nightmares 2 would support either local or online multiplayer co-op play, developer Tarsier Studios actually shut down speculation on this fairly early on back in August 2019. Shortly after Little Nightmares 2 was announced, Tarsier expressed that its main priority was to make a compelling platforming horror adventure which boasted a consistent tone and amount of tension. Somewhat sadly, this also means that any chance of a future patch or update to address Little Nightmares 2 missing co-op modes is extremely slight, simply because the developer believes that the game would actually be worse off when played with a friend. While this is disappointing, the logic behind the decision is sound, as the Little Nightmares games have always sought to trade on tightly controlled moments of tension and other such atmospherics which might end up being compromised by a second player.
