Everything you need to know about Elex 2

Elex 2 is the sequel to Elex (I am sure the clue is in the title somewhere) and is a third-person science fiction RPG that looks to meaningfully build on its predecessor in just about every way. From the release date, to the latest news, trailer, factions and gameplay details, we’ve got everything you need to know about Elex 2 right here.

Elex 2 Release Date – When Is Elex 2 Coming Out And How Can I Play It?

Elex 2 Release Date

The Elex 2 release date has been confirmed as March 1, 2022. It’ll be getting a full release on PC via Steam, in addition to PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One console platforms. Basically, if you’ve got a reasonable PC or a gaming console from the last decade or so that isn’t a Nintendo Switch, you’re good to go with Elex 2.

Where Can I Find The Latest Elex 2 Trailer?

Elex 2 Trailer

Being something of an ambitious offering in the RPG genre, publisher THQ Nordic has released a number of trailers that outline the various aspects of Elex 2. The latest of these trailers zeroes in on the combat system that underpins the baddie smackery that you’ll be getting up to. You can catch the latest Elex 2 trailer below:

Elex 2 News – What Is Elex 2 All About?

Elex 2 News

Developed by Piranha Bytes – the very same group of clever folk that brought us the Gothic games and the previous Elex, Elex 2 whisks players off to the far-flung science fiction world of Magalan, as the menacing Skyands threaten to subjugate the denizens of the planet.

Once more putting players into the boots of rough ‘n’ gruff protagonist Jax it’s a third-person, open world RPG that tasks our hero with putting a foot into the bums of these aggressors in short order. In practice the game has you getting stuck into a whole heap of third-person combat, chatting to NPCs, making decisions that affect the overall story and taking on side quests. Additionally for the uninitiated, ‘Elex’ is more than just a fancy title – it also serves as a super powerful raw material that can be used to infuse objects with great power. Neat.

Elex 2 Gameplay – What Are The Factions In Elex 2?

Elex 2 Factions

Being something of a sprawling open world RPG, it probably shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that the game has a fair number of factions that the player will interact with over the course of the game. The six different Elex 2 factions are as follows:

Skyands

The game’s big bads, the Skyands descended from the sky and immediately began to murder, imprison and infect everything in sight. Equipped with a deadly dark variation of Elex, whomever doesn’t die from exposure to the Dark Elex, is soon turned into a Skyand, adding themselves to the ranks of the very invaders that they tried to stop. Boasting superhuman strength, genius level intellect and a highly advanced armoury, the Skyands have no creed, political stance, moral compass or any other social measuring tool that one would typically use to qualify a civilization. Instead they’re of a single mind to murder and subjugate everything and everyone.

The Albs

Created by a divergent group of Clerics, the Albs decided to eschew the core tenant of the Clerics which prescribed that consumption of Elex should only be used to power inanimate objects. Instead, the Albs went on to consume Elex endlessly, becoming tremendously powerful but losing their emotions and empathy in the process. Unfortunately, this left the Albs open to corruption by the Hybrids – the baddies from the first Elex, who wielded the Albs as a terrible weapon with which to lay waste to much of Magalan. Learning from past mistakes, a sub-faction has emerged within the Albs that recognises the need to ease back on the consumption of Elex in a bid to reintegrate themselves back into civilisation.

The Berserkers

Locked into a death struggle with the Albs, the relatively primitive Berserkers are an almost feral, technologically devolved faction that have been traditionally more concerned with matters of the spirit, rather than those of modernity. In recent times however, a schism has begun to form in the group, with one side being led by a spiritual leader that believes she can ‘talk’ to the Elex and the other being exclusively concerned with having the Berserkers embrace modern technology in order to secure their place in the world.

The Clerics

A deeply unappealing mixture of vomit-inducing self-righteousness and an unhealthy obsession with crafting some of the nastiest plasma weapons you’ll ever see, though the Clerics are the smallest of the six factions, their zeal for religious dogma and reducing unbelievers to ash makes them extremely dangerous indeed.

The Morkons

Developing into an isolationist tribe of subterranean scavengers after a meteor struck Magalan, the Morkons found themselves becoming increasingly desperate thanks in no small part to the dwindling availability of food. Emboldened by this scarcity, the leaders of the Morkons set into stone a number of draconian rules that cannot be broken at any cost – a fact that has caused many a wayward traveller to come unstuck before promptly being shuffled off their mortal coil.

The Outlaws

Rather than being driven by anything remotely approaching high-minded ideals, the Outlaws are a group of really rather bad folks that are all about accruing as much Elex as possible to produce narcotic stims to keep an addictive high going indefinitely. With such a singular goal, it should come as little surprise that this ragtag group of drug abusers and dealers spend more time turning on each other to accumulate that all-important Elex, rather than being concerned with more worldly matters that exist outside of their narrow spheres of narcotic addiction.

How Does Combat Work?

Elex 2 Combat

Like Elex before it, Elex 2 is all about that third-person enemy smacking goodness. With a broad range of melee and ranged weapons available to the player, which includes the likes of bows, axes, guns, rocket launchers and more, it’s fair to say that it provides players with a decent amount of choice when it comes to putting Jax’s enemies six feet under.

Neatly complimenting Elex 2’s selection of ranged and melee weapons, Jax can also leverage a whole range of Psi powers as well (think of the Biotic skills from Mass Effect and you’re basically there) to freeze, shock, stun or immolate the Skyand horde.

What About Elex 2’s Jetpack?

Elex 2 Jetpack

Once more improving upon its predecessor, Elex 2 brings back the jetpack that Jax would use to fly around the game world in the first game. However, not only has its use in combat been greatly expanded to allow our protagonist to rain damage upon his unfortunate foes, but the jetpack itself can be substantially upgraded – resulting in higher speed, more efficient fuel consumption and more besides.
