Racing is set to take on a new dimension in Ubisoft’s “massively multiplayer” Riders Republic, coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and X/S on 28th October 2021. It’s a game that aims to amp up multiplayer racing by taking extreme sports and making them truly competitive in colossal 50-player races.
You’ll be able to go biking, snowboarding, skiing and even take to the skies in flying wingsuits in a variety of different sports. Each sport is itself divided up into options like freestyle, urban or country, meaning you’ll be able to make a name for yourself in the sport that suits you.
Apart from the sports themselves, there’s a tonne of Riders Republic multiplayer modes to enjoy. Here’s what you need to know.
Riders Republic Multiplayer Modes
In Riders Republic you’ll be surrounded by multiplayer aspects at all times, from leaderboards to simply being connected to other players as you play. You don’t have to be competing to see the effects of other players, as you’ll be matched with people nearby or who are doing similar activities.
Outside of the more passive multiplayer aspect of Riders Republic there are several dedicated multiplayer modes you’ll be able to take part in. There are three main types of multiplayer modes available in Riders Republic:
- Competitions: This mode sees you face off against other players in various PvP matches. These can range from trick challenges – where you’ll be performing tricks to gain the most points – to races to see who can master movement the best, to elimination challenges where you’ll compete in a series of events to become the greatest racer of all.
- Multiplayer Team Modes: These see you join a team to battle against an opposing team in 6v6 PvP challenges. One of the core components in Riders Republic is forming groups with friends or fellow players. The game will support voice chat and tools such as teleporting to your teammates’ location in order to facilitate better group activities.
- Mass Starts: Bringing the “massive” part of massively multiplayer into play. Several times an hour, huge 50-player races will set off from various locations throughout the game world, allowing you to earn stars by finishing well against a colossal number of opponents.
In addition to those modes you’ll constantly be seeing other players out and about, be able to group up with them, or just hang out and ride around the world. Any challenge you come across in the world can be used as a challenge against your friends or your group, letting your friends know who’s the best (hopefully you!).
Riders Republic Local & Split-Screen Multiplayer
Two of the most common and pressing questions related to Riders Republic multiplayer is whether or not the game will feature local or split-screen multiplayer modes.
At the time of writing, the developers have confirmed that there will be no Riders Republic local multiplayer. Due to the way the game works with its constant connectivity with those around you in-game and how the game’s social spaces work, it was decided to keep every player on the same level playing field.
This also means that, despite there being no official confirmation at this time, due to there being no local multiplayer it would indicate no split screen multiplayer mode is coming to Riders Republic.
Riders Republic will be launching on 28th October. While you wait, why not head over to our community forum to have your say about what you’re most looking forward to?
